Good luck to Bromley red watch who will "Row the Thames" later today.
The firefighters are rowing 215 miles on six rowing machines at the Intu shopping centre in Bromley to raise money for The Neuroblastoma Children’s Cancer Alliance UK. The charity challenge will take place between 10am and 3pm.
The fundraiser is in honour of two-year-old Ruby Young who is suffering from a rare form of childhood cancer called Neuroblastoma.

Tragic events in Hampstead this week, where a young man died in a bathing pond, have highlighted the hidden dangers of open water.
We have 10 fire rescue units strategically placed around London that carry specialist equipment that can be used at water related incidents and for water rescues.
The equipment includes a boat, inflatable mud paths and a mud lance. Watch this video to find out how this equipment is used and read our water safety tips.

Happy as a pig in muck: 30 pigs & 7 dogs had their bacon saved after they were safely rescued from a barn blaze in Enfield. Firefighters worked hard in hot and challenging conditions to bring the fire under control http://www.london-fire.gov.uk/LatestIncidentsContainer_1504…

  • Robert Newby Went to a fire like that years ago but the pigs weren't so lucky as the fire started just after midnight and the fire had a good hold by the time we got there sad to see but fire doesn't take prisoners

The dangers facing smokers who dispose of their smoking materials carelessly became all-too-obvious for two young men in South Kensington. They were relaxing in their flat on Old Brompton Road when a fire began and triggered the smoke alarm. 
One of them left the second floor flat and flagged down a passing police car. Police officers led the other person to safety and put the small fire out. Fire investigators found ample evidence of smoking in the flat and if you smoke too, make sure you put it out - right out.

As the weather warms up it might be tempting to cool down with a quick dip, but you could end up getting quite a shock.
In the last three years our crews have attended 136 incidents involving people in water and carried out 92 rescues. Sadly there have also been 12 water related fatalities.
To mark the first ever Drowning Prevention and Water Safety Week, we will be highlighting the hidden risks of rivers, lakes and canals.

On Thursday crews were called to this Harrow flat fire. Thankfully no-one was injured but it left the living room damaged and the rest of the flat smoke logged. Our fire investigators believe the fire was caused when an oil lamp in a religious shrine set light to papers nearby. If you're using candles, incense or oil burners make sure they're properly extinguished when you’re not using them and are not left unattended. It’s the Oxford-Cambridge boat race today, but the university teams aren’t the only ones who have been putting in the hours on rowing machines.

We've completed our initial assessment and believe that the fire in Holborn started last week due to an electrical fault in the Victorian tunnels running underneath the Kingsway. This technically difficult fire shows just how complex London can be and how unseen risks underneath the capital can significantly affect businesses, residents and the day to day running of parts of the Capital.
