Working OT today on FFD Engine 5. This is the engine first-in on the fire from last Sunday that critically injured my friend Captain Pete Dern.
The engineer on with me today was also operating E5 last Sunday. He was at the pump panel, saw everything and was able (and willing) to walk me through the scene and briefed me on what he saw / did (what we could access anyways - it's boarded up and fenced).
Very sad and surreal to visit here.

I walk a line, a thin red line that few will ever understand.
It's a thin line filled with blood, sweat, heartache, pain and lots of tears.
It can be rewarding, and it can also be sadly tragic.
