February 22, 1945- 70 years ago FF George B Weill, Ladder 23, First Lieutenant U.S. Army 473rd Amphibious Truck Company, was Killed in Action/Missing in Action during World War II. At the time, firemen and policemen did not have to go to war, but FF Weill and many other FDNY Firemen and NYPD Policemen chose to defend their country. FF Weill was posthumously awarded the Silver Star for his actions that day also received the Purple Heart. His body was never found. May he rest in Eternal Peace. His sacrifice will never be forgotten by the Vinegar Hill Gang and his brothers and sisters of the FDNY. Story submitted by: FF Peter Sorbo, TL-23
