Take The New York Public Library’s Summer Reading Challenge from June through August and EXPERIMENT with new ideas, BUILD new skills, and EARN prizes and achievements.Talk to a librarian to sign up, set your reading goals, and earn your first achievement. Or find programs and resources for your age group below. Even ADULTS can join the fun!
Summer Reading is about staying sharp while out of school. Studies show that kids who read regularly during summer vacation keep up or even move ahead in school, while ones who don’t often slide backward.

Celebrate the start of NYPL’s Summer Reading Challenge at this FREE daylong event for kids and teens featuring hands-on activities, music, and more.Wednesday, June 4, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.

KIDS
To get started, ask a librarian for the Kids 2014 Summer Reading Activity Book & Book List. You’ll find recommended books for babies through Grade 5. PLUS, you can set your personal Summer Reading goal, log your books, and earn stickers and prizes. Or sign up and get started online, then visit your local library to find out what prizes you can win.

Learn to develop video games, websites, and apps at one of NYPL’s new Teen Tech Clubs at select branches this summer. Or sign up for a four-week session of "From Planes to Silly Putty: How Things Work," held at multiple locations in July and August. Check back at the end of May for more details.
ADULTS
Summer Reading isn’t just for kids. Adults can also join in and discover new titles recommended by our librarians. The 2014 Adult Summer Reading Book List includes novels that are guaranteed to transport readers to a range of intriguing places, from pre–Civil War Virginia to 1920s Alaska to the Amazon jungle.
