On April 23, civilian and uniformed personnel assigned to Fire Department Headquarters brought children aged 5-15 to work with them in Downtown Brooklyn. A special lunchtime program was held for the children, introducing them to the world of public service and the wide array of skills employed to support FDNY’s mission.
Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro and Chief of Department James E. Leonard swore-in the eager participants as honorary members of FDNY, with each receiving a certificate and helmet. “It was fun to visit my dad at work today,” said Aaron, who came to work with his father Fabricio Caro, Director of the FDNY Office of Community Engagement. “I really liked learning about wearing gloves when you treat patients, because I like helping people when they’re hurt.”

The children and parents were treated to snacks and presentations by Paramedic Kyra Neely from Rescue Company 45 in Queens, Firefighter Kenneth M. Kutch from Ladder 3 in Manhattan, and Lt. Anthony Mancuso from the Fire Safety Education Unit.
Firefighter Kutch said that Bring Your Child to Work day is important, because “it allows the children to become more familiar with our presence รข€“ so that they are prepared for what they see if they ever need us.”
