Self Realization Fellowship: Reviews

I believe this is a painting of one of the Fellowship's Branches in California...of course, we are talking about the New York one..

I don't know if Yelp reviews are entirely appropriate for a place like this, it is too much of a temptation for people who are bitter or have grudges or who are in the thrall too much of the place on the other hand to post things...well, here goes- Ha! Just one review  (the California location has more)

Will run it for what it is worth...mostly, I hope, an insight into why someone is attracted to this place

I've always heard and read about the benefits of mediation and have done it in the past in the privacy of my home.

Tonight, I attended a meditation session at the Self Realization Fellowship.
The Self Realization Fellowship was started in 1920 by Paramahansa Yogananda  to teach methods of meditation and spiritual living. The center has a calendar of events and tonight's meditation session was 90 minutes but you can arrive and leave as need be. They also have sessions that can last as long as 4 hours.

The place is like a house of worship where anyone and everyone of any faith or not is welcomed. Upon entering, there are rows of chairs to the left and right and at the front of the room are pictures of notable leaders including Jesus and Paramahansa Yogananda.
Meditation was interrupted and integrated with readings, song and affirmations.
There is no fee but donations are appreciated. After an hour, I had to leave but felt a sense of calmness and peace.

In a city that presents us with daily challenges, stress and expectations, it's nice to know that you can enter a place like Self Realization Fellowship to take a step back and find inner peace even if just for a few minutes.

I highly recommend attending and am looking forward to my next visit.
