Herald Square Shopping Area, while we are at it...

Above: Thanksgiving 2012, Herald Square Area..

I can tell you right away that ,on the whole,Yelper's are as enthusiastic about the general Herald Square area as a whole as they are about Macy's. Of course some complain about dirt, crowds and pigeons... Here is just a sampling of what they say on Yelp...I have left the gripes in

    I love going through herald square because it relaxes me from my usual neighborhood. Although some parts are really dirty (i.e. the little street between 32nd and 33rd), It's really nice to walk around and hear the bustling noise.

    I love Herald square, the Pedestrian parks are the best, newly constructed a few years ago, with the idea to add more side walk parks on the street for pedestrian, where you can lounge, sip on some coffee, have lunch or simply relax.

    I really enjoy coming to herald square to absorb the energy of the people in the city. I really enjoy the fast pace and sometime just sit and watch as the city moves. It's a great experience if you have never been to NYC, simply visit Herald square, grab yourself something good to eat or drink from any of the local shops around, and find yourself a seat at any of the pedestrian plazas, you will be amazed how energizing this City is.

    Look why are going to whine and bitch and moan about Herald Square? You clearly should know what you'll be facing once you get out the B or the D train. You have to know that they'll be tourists everywhere and people rushing into Macy's like it was the last thing on earth to do. So if you know it here's a tip DON'T GO. If you honestly don't need to be there then don't. Only time I'm ever in that area is when I make a trip to Macy's. Thats really it.

    Herald Square if you minus the people pushing you and the guys trying to get you to buy their CD's is actually not a bad area (can't tell me it's not when it's 3am and NO ONE is around so shhh). During the holidays it's a nice to see the christmas windows but again not actually sticking around for long periods of time. That would just be crazy. I've complained about the tourists in past reviews but realize it's one of the things that makes NYC great. If you live here just avoid the area that's all.

    Yes it is -

    * Touristy
    * Surrounded by some nice merchandise stores
    * Is in the vicinity of public transportation(Subway,LIRR,Path)
    * Has plenty of food trucks every few steps of each block
    * It's noisy and very loud.

    Having said that I come here very often due to my work commitments. I wish it was less crowded.
