Oh, that Tavern on Green Restaurant was once such an "in" and popular place( in background--they are doing some work on it I see)..
I believe it was one of the very few or only maybe the only real restaurant in the Park proper.
Went to a number of events here to record comments of business meeting speakers. Will never forget this man Paul Tsongas, he came out of nowhere and suddenly all these people were talking about him as a potential Presidential nominee. Nothing much came of this as it worked out. Just another short burst of publicity for someone....what did Andy Warhol say exactly, his " ten minutes of fame"?( Believe the original quote was " In the future, everyone will be famous for ten minutes." )
SO MANY PEOPLE HATED Warhol's work when he was at his height and predicted his moment of fame would be very fleeting indeed. But his Campbell's soup cans and Marilyn Monroe multi-colored photo booth photos etc. worked their way into the public consciousness and museums snapped them up.
I notice they still occasionally play music from the Velvet Underground, his pet Rock Group, on the BBC...
Well, Tavern on the Green had a damn long moment of fame...wondering now what it will be reborn as...
