Arguably the most popular child star of all time, Shirley Temple set a precedent in Hollywood. Appearing in over 35 feature films, which include the classics Heidi and Curly Top, Temple earned a record-breaking (at the time) salary of $50,000 per film.
Temple ultimately retired from acting at age 22, taking on an entirely different role as a foreign diplomat, serving as a U.S. Ambassador for both Ghana and Czechoslovakia.
Though she passed away last February, we will always remember Temple as the fresh-faced, curly-haired beauty so many of us fell in love with on the big screen. Fans of the charismatic star are in for a treat these next few months. A traveling exhibition that includes toys, costumes, and more memorabilia from Temple’s films will begin its run late April before being auctioned off in July.
