Charity 5K Run/Walk Recap

So far FoF's Generosity Brooklyn runners and walkers have raised $16,880 in support of our mission - more than 3 times as much as last year! Fundraising is still open and we're just $3,120 away from our goal of $20,000. We ask for your help in reaching it by donating to any of our race participants on our race page.

Thank you to everyone who ran or walked, cheered, volunteered, or donated in support of Friends of Firefighters through Generosity Brooklyn! A huge thank you to The Generosity Series for coordinating the event.

Of course, thank you to Steve Buscemi and his Boardwalk Empire co-stars, Paul Sparks (who ran the 5K!), Anthony Laciura, and Anatol Yusef, who were on hand to cheer on our runners and walkers.

Stress Awareness Month
StressAwarenessMonthImage

April is Stress Awareness Month so we're sharing stress reducing tips from our counselors and wellness providers on Facebook and Instagram all month long.

Tips we've shared so far:
  • Breathing and meditation: These release tension and relax the mind and body.
  • Animal therapy: Interaction with a gentle animal can reduce anxiety, among other benefits.
  • A simple way proven to increase happiness is by increasing attention to the good things in life. Those who practiced savoring activities regularly showed significant increases in happiness and reductions in depression.
Visit our social media pages for more tips throughout the rest of April!

WHY: Just as we learn CPR or first aid to help during medical emergencies, knowing how to provide psychological first aid is something important you can do for your family, friends, and neighbors' well-being.

WHAT TO EXPECT: Informative, clear, and engaging instruction, which allows the participants to interact as much or as little with the group and instructor as you wish.
