Police informed that the truck was cut by other vehicle causing the driver to lose control. The crew of five firefighters suffered minor injuries.          VIDEO RAISES QUESTIONS - FIREFIGHTER vs. FLAMETHROWER YouTube Video Saturday, April 25, 2015   In this video, a person who appears to be a firefighter uses a shielded firehose to battle a high-powered flamethrower. At 13 seconds, you can take a moment to watch the entire thing without feeling as if part of your day has been lost to the latest scrimmage in the timeless war of the elements.Now I'll be fielding questions, because surely you have many: Is that a firefighter or merely someone who has acquired a firefighter uniform? An excellent query. As you might know, going head to head with a flamethrower isn't standard firefighter behavior. I have firefighters in my family, so I can say confidently that many if not most firefighters prefer to use their free time watching sporting events, grilling red meats, and pontooning with some fairly priced cool brews. [ more ]         INDIANA APPARATUS CRASH Saturday, April 25, 2015  Only minor injuries were reported after a fire engine was involved in a crash in Bartholomew County Wednesday morning.It happened around 8:15 a.m. on County Road 550 West near County Road 225 South. Officials say a Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputy was following a Harrison Township Fire engine to a medic call. Both vehicles were heading southbound on CR 550 W when they approached a northbound truck pulling a trailer near CR 225 S. Officials say the fire engine had to pull over to avoid the truck and trailer. The right side wheels of the fire truck went off the roadway and hit a Duke Energy utility pole. A volunteer firefighter suffered minor cuts from glass when the fire engine’s windshields broke. He was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital. Other volunteer firefighters on board were not hurt.   3 FFs INJURED AT NJ FIRE 6ABC.com Video Saturday, April 25, 2015   Three firefighters were hurt battling a blaze on Friday afternoon in Medford Lakes, New Jersey. The two-alarm fire broke out in the 100 block of Mohawk Trail. It was reported around 2:30 p.m. Those firefighters were taken to local hospitals for treatment of minor injuries. more ]         2 INDIANA FFs INJURED AT HOUSE FIRE Tri-State News, Weather WFIE Video Saturday, April 25, 2015  Two firefighters were hurt responding to a vacant house fire in Gibson County Friday morning.The fire broke out just before 3:00 a.m. in the 11000 block of Oak Street in Oakland City. The chief tells 14NEWS the fire started in the back of house, and crews were able to knock it down quickly. The two emergency responders, who were injured when a hose burst, were treated on the scene. We're told the fire is being considered suspicious because the utilities were shut off. The state fire marshal will be investigating.         ONE MONTH LATER AFTER CINCY LODD - QUESTIONS REMAIN Saturday, April 25, 2015  As investigators continue to search for answers a month after beloved Cincinnati firefighter Daryl Gordon fell into an elevator shaft and died, this much is certain:•Firefighters rarely die in elevator-related incidents. •The type of elevator in the Madisonville apartment building is outdated and may be unlike any other style the veteran firefighter had ever encountered. Not much else is known about the March 26 incident. A federal investigation may not be finished until early next year, and city and local fire union officials say they're waiting for the results to determine whether to call for banning so-called "swing-door" elevators and if firefighters need to change the way they work in and around elevators. A report specifically detailing the cause of the fire at the five-floor apartment building on Dahlgren Street could be released next week, but it's believed the fire did not originate or spread to the elevator shaft. [ more ]         BUFFALO FFs ENCOUNTER KNIFE WIELDING WOMAN Saturday, April 25, 2015  Three firefighters are recovering from non-life threatening injuries after being confronted Friday by a woman with a knife inside a burning home on Glenwood Avenue in Buffalo.According to Fire Commissioner Garnell Whitfield, crews responded around 1 p.m. Friday to 210 Glenwood Avenue, at the corner of Waverly Street. Whitfield said that there appeared to be some kind of issue between the woman and a man, who family members said is the homeowner. "She told my brother that she was not going back to jail, that she was going to finish him off, and you see this right here, what's going on," said Marvin Blakely, the victim's brother. Blakely said family members arrived quickly after he took a panicked call from his mother. "There was black smoke coming out of the house," said Larusha Blakely, victim's niece. [ more ]         PA FF INJURED AT FIRE Saturday, April 25, 2015  A McKeesport firefighter was hospitalized with minor injuries sustained while battling a blaze in the city Thursday afternoon. Fire Deputy Chief Don Sabol said the firefighter, who was not identified, was transported by McKeesport Ambulance Rescue Service to UPMC McKeesport. The Allegheny County Fire Marshal is investigating the two-alarm fire at 565 Palm St. Firefighters from Glassport, White Oak and McKeesport responded to the scene at 3:25 and had the fire under control by 3:58. Sabol said the homeowner was at the house when the fire started, possibly on the back porch. He got out safely. Sabol said crews from the city's Station No. 2 along Eden Park Boulevard could see the smoke from their building. The back porch was engulfed when firefighters arrived, Sabol said. [ more ]         DCFD EMS SUPERVISOR-SHOTS FIRED Friday, April 24, 2015   Shots were fired at a DFCD EMS supervisor as he was following a vehicle involved in a gun battle on Thursday night, April 23rd. The saga began around midnight when the captain on duty in EMS 2 witnessed 2 vehicles exchanging gunfire at 4th and Morse Streets NE. [ more ]         OH FF INJURED IN WALL COLLAPSE Thursday, April 23, 2015   A Marion firefighter was seriously injured last night battling a blaze in the city’s downtown.The firefighter was hurt in the lower leg while combatting the fire on N. Vine Street, a Marion dispatcher said. The firefighter’s injury came when a brick wall collapsed, WBNS-TV reported. The injured firefighter was transported to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center in Columbus. The blaze affected a brick building and an adjacent house. WBNS-TV reported the brick building was vacant, and that the residents of the house were not at home when the fire erupted.         FF FALLS OUT OF TRUCK IN PA (NOT BELTED) YouTube.com Video Wednesday, April 22, 2015  Officials say a broken door latch is to blame for injuries to an Arnold firefighter who tumbled from a truck on the way to a fire call Tuesday morning. Arnold's overall fire chief, J.C. Tedorski, said the injured volunteer was treated and released from Allegheny Valley Hospital in Harrison and was advised to see a shoulder specialist. “Fortunately, the firefighter was wearing his helmet and other gear, but he still received a head laceration and a shoulder injury,” Tedorski said. Tedorski declined to identify the man “at his request.” He did say the man is in his 40s and is one of the department's newest members. The man fell about 4 feet from a 1987 truck that was in use Tuesday because the main fire engine was being serviced. He said the truck was turning fr... [ more ]         FDNY RIG FALLS INTO SINK HOLE - 2 FFs INJURED Wednesday, April 22, 2015  A fire engine had to be rescued in Brooklyn on Tuesday. The stuck truck was parked on the street outside Brookdale Hospital in East Flatbush when a 15-foot-deep sinkhole opened up and swallowed its front right wheel around noon. About a dozen firefighters stacked pieces of wood near the tire of the Engine Co. 257 truck to keep it from sinking deeper into Rockaway Parkway. But one of the planks then sprang out and hit two of the emergency responders. Both were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Puzzlingly, they were taken to Kings County Hospital instead of being treated at Brook­dale. Authorities could not immediately explain why. FDNY Chief Stephen Moro of Division 15 said it’s unclear what caused the sinkhole. “This is an odd one,” Moro said. [ more ]   Man Threatens to Kill Mass. Firefighters Monday, April 20, 2015  A Massachusetts man was arrested after threatening to kill a firefighter battling a brush fire. "I will kill you if you don't leave. You won't think it's funny when a bullet cracks your helmet," Jason West, 42, is reported to have said to a firefighter, according to MyFoxBoston. Oxford firefighters had been evacuating the woods, where West lives, when they said the threat occurred. He reportedly resisted arrest, and once in jail threw feces at a security camera and on the walls of his cell, the station reported. West was taken to the hospital for an evaluation         FF UNDERGOES SURGERY AFTER MI FIELD FIRE Monday, April 20, 2015   A firefighter from the Chesaning-Brady Fire Department remains hospitalized in Detroit after suffering injuries fighting a field fire Saturday, April 18, according to Chesaning-Brady Fire Chief Scott Fall.The firefighter, whom Fall is not naming, suffered a broken leg when a rotten tree fell on him and another firefighter while they were assisting with an afternoon call on Sharon in St. Charles Township, Fall said. The firefighter first was airlifted to Covenant HealthCare Hospital and then to Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Fall said. The other firefighter was treated and released at a Saginaw hospital. Fall said the firefighter who suffered the broken leg was in surgery most of Sunday. He said the belief is that he will not have to have his leg amputated. [ more ]         TREE FALLS ON 2 FFs WORKING GRASS FIRE ABC12.com Video Sunday, April 19, 2015  Firefighters across Mid-Michigan were busy Saturday with grass fires. During one fire, two firefighters were hurt.We found the Tri-Township Fire Department working on a grass fire near Sharon and Fergus in St. Charles Township. Not too far away, another grass fire actually jumped from one side of the road to another. It burned just a few acres, but kept the Chesaning-Brady Fire Department busy for a while. We're told with low humidity and our winds, it was the perfect conditions for fires like these to spread. During one of the many brush fires today two Chesaning-Brady firefighters were hurt. The Assistant Fire Chief tells us a hollow tree that was on fire fell on the firefighters while they were waiting for a chainsaw to cut it down. Both men were taken to a hospital.
