Do these letter grades in NYC eatery windows really mean anything, or are they just a money making scheme by a City that slaps fines on places willy nilly?
Now 125 restaurants have banded together to sue the City to stop the rating system because of this...
What they do not mention, of course, is how many inspectors also take or even ask for bribes.
Back in the 1990's, a "sting" operation found that 40 out of 41 Housing Inspectors tested took bribes when offered. The other one demanded a bribe without being offered one.
No different in Chicago or a lot of other American cities.
