Pizza Man Gone, Also Pizzeria!

Noticed the other day that one of my favorite pieces of street sculpture had disappeared again!

This is the Pizza Man outside Rosa's Pizzeria on 2nd Avenue.

Was going to go ask them what had happened today ( Pizza Man was just recently refurbished)--

Then saw a new sign in doorway saying Rosa's had moved to the Empire State Building ( of all places).

Too cold to go over there today and look for it....

Will try to find relocated Rosa's on another outing.

Murray Hill side streets

There are signs of Christmas all over the area...

Subdued ones, like shown here, in one of the nicer areas of Murray Hill.

Still have not been up to see the tree at Rockefeller Center...may not make it at all this year. I am jaded about it I guess.

Tudor City Christmas

The park in Tudor City is decorated and just waiting for a snowfall.

Walking difficulties

I am always amazed how many people in Midtown are getting around with the help of wheelchairs, walkers, crutches and canes.

So many people with disabilities will not be stopped, not even on the coldest days.

Nativity Scene

Here's something I have not seen much of -- a nativity scene in window in Murray Hill.

This one is fenced off from sidewalk...for some reason apparently these scenes get vandalized a lot.

Salvation Army

HERE'S the Salvation Army at work outside Grand Central Terminal.

Supposed to be freezing cold here tomorrow...hope these workers are prepared for it.

Vintage Clothing Sale

Interesting that Vintage clothing store on Fifth Avenue calls it a "Recession sale" and not a "Holiday Sale"....

Astro Gems Christmas Display Window

Astro Gems and Minerals window bedecked for the holidays... find it festive!

Near the Empire State Building

Yes, still another tourist trying to get a great shot of the Empire State Building....

Fountain still going

This fountain with the statue and ornamental kale will not be on much longer...winter is here, although today was mild.

Santa on Library Lion

Lots of people were scrambling up on top of the lions at the Public Library on Fifth Avenue ( this Santas was sliding all over the place)---

Part of festive holiday spirit today.

Girls & Boys sepaarte in park

Some of the girls joined the boys to play handball in St. Vartan's Park, but for the most part the girls sat it out.

Santa Confab

Lots of Santa Helpers from Santa.com or whatever it is gather at 42nd Street and 2nd Avenue.

Lots of people in santa hats etc.today....it was mild and inviting outside and the crowds were huge.

Santa's Helpers

I never did find out what organization these young ladies are working for....something like Santa.com --

not the Salvation Army.

One of their friends told them not to let me take their picture because " he's just a tourist."

Old Manhattan Street Sign in Store Window

A long time ago, Manhattan switched over from the old street signs like this one seen in the window of the Clover Deli at 34th Street and 2nd Avenue...

For a long while all Manhattan signs were all caps, black on yellow...

New ones now --they are still putting them in, costs a lot of money during the recession...--new ones are upper and lower case ( supposedly easier to read) with white letters on green background.

Grey Day in Midtown-Murray Hill

Cold and grey and wintry today in Midtown-Murray Hill...

Sort of silver light late this afternoon. Pretty. Hope this picture captures it.

Basketball and Handball in Park at Dusk

Despite cold and darkness falling, neighborhood youngsters are still out playing basketball and handball at dusk in St. Vartan's Park....in Midtown Manhattan.

Another Loft Conversion

Old red building in center has sign on it saying it is being converted into lofts.

All these loft conversions still go on despite terrible real estate market.

Weird rock garden

There is this weird rock garden (?) with pipe and water flowing on East 35th Street in front of apartment building...

Wonder what kind of design theory is behind this.

Manhattan Aerial Map Photo, no DRAWING - BIG

This oversize black and white framed photo map sits in front of tourist store on Fifth Avenue near Empire State building...

Guess they just keep it out there for fun or something, doubt if anyone would buy it.

It is old..has World Trade Center visible.

Wait a second, just noticed that in upper left corner it says it is a pencil drawing ( not a photo). Must have taken hours to do...

Xmas tree decor- local garage

Yes, Christmas tree in local garage...

Recession seems to have made people want to celebrate more this year...

Is that what they call counter-intuitive?

Christmas Tree Sale

Yes, they are selling fresh Christmas trees now..business seems brisk around here.

Prefer artificial trees myself because of fire safety.

Suppose real tree would be OK if you could have it out on a balcony or something.

"The Inn of the Sixth Happiness"

This Six Happiness place seems appropriate for the Holiday season....

Wonder what food is like. Beyond being Chinese, I mean.

Is This Fashion?

Since I know nothing about what is currently stylish in women's clothes, I am always wandering by shop windows like this one and wondering....are those dresses really in fashion?

Now that I think of it, I really don't know what is fashionable in men's clothes, either...but I think that also depends a lot on what age group you are in.
