An audit has criticized Compton paramedics for failing to complete nearly a dozen different types of medical records after delivering emergency care, as well as failing to identify poor performing medics. "As a department, we've become a little relaxed," said Bryan Batiste, who was appointed interim fire chief last week. "The oversight just needs to be stronger. Everybody has to do their job or else."

Spokane responders are training to bring emergency medical care to gunshot victims even when the shooter is still at large. “When you have a scenario that's almost like a battlefield where people are injured severely, a lot of multi-system trauma, blood loss, the quicker you can get to them, the quicker you have the opportunity to save them,” Spokane Fire Department Battalion Chief Dave Haworth said.

The problems of post-traumatic stress and suicide among emergency responders continue unabated. A new Facebook group, the 911 Peer Support Group, offers a forum for stressed and troubled providers to connect with and draw support from their peers.
“PTSD among 9-1-1 workers is a long-ignored problem,” the group’s page notes. “Grief mops and trauma sponges need wrung out now and again without fear, guilt or shame.” It already has more than 2,800 members.

The British medical system says healthy women with normal pregnancies should give birth outside the hospital. But 99 percent of babies in the U.S. are born in one. What do you think?

  • Megan Murphy Cox Healthy and normal do not dictate how your delivery will go. I personally have seen too many obstetric emergencies arise in "normal" pregnancies/deliveries, and would never choose a home birth. I do think hospital deliveries could be a lot less clinical, allowing for more choices by the mother. "Baby Friendly" certification is doing just that.

If over a hundred causualties then the "majority" will blame the government for "allowing" people to live in these areas. The big problem is that the insurance conglomerate won't pay out anything due to the "natural" damages clause. Throw away most communications systems. Should be a lot of fun.
