Tennis, Anyone?

Oops. In my earlier postings I forgot to mention the huge tennis court installation North of the Central Park Reservoir.

Despite the heat and the humidity, though, I noticed the courts were full. 

This does not surprise me at all, it goes along with experience of playing tennis and tennis players ( (I had my first tennis lessons the summer of my twelfth year, from the husband of the woman who had been my home room teacher-- So I noticed earlier on the instructor, Mr. Bennett, who seemed to be old at first glance and then you realized he was still very powerfully built...would have us all out there practicing away no matter how hot or humid it was.

Tennis in in a summer heat wave is not a game for the faint hearted.

(Actually, I prefer to be in a nice cool swimming pool in the summer).

Just thought I would see how the tennis deal in the Park is set up: 

(Note here-- if I did want to play, I would get quite a break as a senior. The fee is $200 for a permit, so even though this is a City Park, you have to pay for your thrills. 

Well, given the cost of keeping places up these days I am not surprised--

The Central Park Tennis Center is now open for the 2013 Season for tennis lessons and programs and play on the 26 public clay courts.  To book tennis lessons please call 212-316-0800 x.3/4. The Central Park Tennis Center is located mid park in the mid 90's in the heart of Central Park. To get to the Central Park Tennis Center from the west side you can enter on 90th,93rd or 96th st. and Central Park West and head east into the park.It's less than a 5 minute walk.From the east side you can enter the park on 90th or 96th st. & 5th ave and start heading west into the park.It's a 10-15 min walk. The nearest subways are the 1,2,3,6,B,C trains to 96th street.

The hours of play are 6:30am-8:00pm daily.The last hour of play is 7:00pm-8:00pm. The Pro shop & Snack Bar  closes at 7:00pm daily.

Tennis Permits can be purchased on line at: www.nycgovparks.org or visit the Arsenal Building at  830 5th Avenue (64-65 & 5th Ave)  to purchase a tennis  permit in person. Please call 212-360-8131/3 for general information.
Tennis Permit Prices are: $200 for Adults,$20 Seniors(62 years and older) Jr.s (17  years and younger) $10. Lockers are $20.
