14 years ago, on September 11th 2001, the
#FDNY lost 341 active NYC Firefighters & 2 Paramedics. 4 additional NYC firefighters who were retired from the FDNY were working as Fire Safety Directors at the World Trade Center. Captain James Corrigan, FF Philip Hayes, FF William Wren and FF Richard Fitzsimmons successfully evacuated and cared for the children of the World Trade Center who were in the day care, in addition to any civilian they came across. These 4 brave men also lost their lives that day; but the children were safe and secure. 347 FDNY members, just doing their job. To this day, the FDNY continues to suffer as members are suffering and dying from cancer and other illness they recieved from breathing the air during search & recovery.
