Ah c'mon - u guys are taking this the wrong way. Dude is a brand ambassador of Indonesia - he's stirring up some conversation about Indonesia, using the Donald as a platform. Not self serving at all or a consequence of 3 good martinis at lunch..a vetted, thought out strategy - have some faith people.
You cannot fault Fadli Zon for exposing how inept and shallow he is. You cannot criticise him for being unable to differential right from wrong.
After all he was in the land of the free so it was only natural for him to freely express his natural self uninhibited.
On a related note that watch on his right hand is worth more than 70 workers' five-months salary, working two rotating shifts, including Sundays and public holidays non-stop.
And on another related note rumour has it that Trump had to be convinced that Fadil Zon and co. were not Hispanics.
I think the watch that has caught public attention was not Fadli's but Setya Novanto.

Fadli seems to like meeting famous people and taking selfies:

Please don't blame them. They are only a bunch of kampung people being lured to the limelight and taken advantage of. With their low educational and moral backgrounds they could not even tell that they are embarrassing the people of Indonesia let alone themselves.
it is more of a low moral background... but these guys will argue as they will claim they are very religious so by right should also be of high moral :D
This one is hilarious.
Fadli Zon's party Gerindra made a rule in 2012 that none of its members is allowed to travel to the overseas using government's money. Anyone who disobeys this rule would be fired from the party by Prabowo.
Don't believe me ? Have a look the official statement here at Gerindra's facebook page (www.facebook.com/gerindra/posts/362650380433117). Also available in the media (www.jpnn.com/read/2012/03/06/119732/Gerindra-Larang-Kader-ke-Luar-Negeri). Note: They're in Indonesian language. You might need to dump them in google translate to get the english translation.
The problem facing Indonesia in a microcosm : " You shouldn't cricticize me ! I am not guilty ! Ask my supporters , do they think i am guilty ? i am suing you for defamation ! "
You can take the indonesian out of the kampung but you can never take the kampung out of an indonesian
Trump hasn't declared his candidacy officially? I am sure he would be disappointed to know he is not an official candidate for the Republican party's nomination... then again
He's officially running for the president's office, but the Republicans has not decide whether they will be represented by Jeb Bush or this man
House of Representatives Deputy Speaker Fadli Zon on Sunday lambasted statements of Imam Shamsi Ali, 64, a renowned Muslim leader and the chairman of the Al-Hikmah Mosque in New York, the US, who criticized a recent meeting between Fadli, House Speaker Setya Novanto and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. He also threatened to file a lawsuit against the Muslim scholar.

Hey JP who did you quote 64 yeras old of age? Get your source correctly. Shamsi Ali is not 64 years old age
What a disgusting human being. He should put his head in shame and resign effective immediately, along with that loser Setya who could only say "yes very much" when asked. Pathetic brainless individuals. This idiot Fadli has the same attitude as that stupid Sarpin who repeatedly stated that his "good name" has been smeared. What a bunch of clowns.
Good luck with the law suit sir. If appearing on USA TV smiling and shaking hands isn't showing support I don't know what does.
Poor judgement at best.
This is an English speaking publication. It would serve you well to remember that and refrain from use of monkey tongue.
Dont apologize to this beruk? English publication made in indonesia. just that he is annoyed to not understand the meaning. our advantage friend. amd no rules saying we cant.
But the main question remains:What the hell were those indonesian "politicians"supposed to be doing there?(At the expens of taxpayers money).
Duncan - The real answer to your question was that they were attending this:

Just for comparison:
Indonesia sent 25 participants (at public expense) whilst China sent 10 and the UK just 8.

well, that should be the real story, .. but even the JP became a gossip paper, reporting the obvious inept daily nonsense of the peoples' representatives.
can someone please provide the KPK link for reporting a mismanagement of funds - or can KPK also not handle the infidels language?
come on... it is a free...oops paid-for luxurious trip... u think these guys or most of those guys in that house wont want it?
I hope he is filing that stuff with a REALLY expensive lawyer at a new York court and looses a lot of money with these Kampoeng antics...arguments like that might work in Jakarta, but in NYC...?
So full of guilt for misusing statefunds for an unsanctioned trip this guy is only trying to overload to divert attention away from him.
I only hope the KPK will soon start to investigate this trip. And the watch....
You guys should see (google) the selfie taken by Fadli Zon during that event with one of females supporters of Trump. She was holding a placard with the writing "The Silent Majority stands with Trump".
Ooooh...this time, it's going to backfire badly to this clown Fadli Zon. In the past, this softie has frequently threatened to file lawsuits to people who criticized him. This time...he's playing with fire.
Not only the bulk of Indonesians including Muslim leaders condemned the "incident", but Fadli can be perceived as someone who supports the controversial American while he threatens a respected Muslim leader (even if such thing is possible considering the different jurisdiction). This won't do any good to Gerindra whose supports largely come from Islamic party....
This softie clown is clearly stupid...
Fadli apparently used government funds while wearing a $140,000 wrist watch. If this was for personal business, then it should be paid with personal money, which there is surely an abundance. As for a law suit against someone living in the US, just a quick reminder, Indonesian laws do not apply. These outragious threats are indicative of a weak person, trying to justify some wrong doing. Hopefully a thorough investigation of this trip will happen, and then you can ask for a "pre-trial" hearing for alleged misuse of government funds, especially in light of the fact that Indonesia is having a financial crisis and many citizens might lose jobs.
Fadli says "Otherwise, I will file a lawsuit against him for allegedly violating the 2008 Electronic Information and Transactions Law."
May I ask - does the 2008 Electronic Information and Transactions Law of the Republic of Indonesia have any legal force in the City of New York, New York State, United States of America where Imam Shamsi lives and where he works at the Al-Hikmah Mosque?
If not how will this case proceed?
: Clearly a FB posting is an "Electronic Communication" under the EITL, 2008 Electronic Information and Transactions Law (see in particular Articles 16 and 17). The FB posting clearly is an EF as defined by the referenced law. Even though the perspective defendant lives in New York, he might own property in Indonesia against which a judgment could be enforced. The defendant would also have a duty to defend himself (an expensive proposition), else suffer the risk of a "default judgment" against him. Unless the Imam is wealthy and.or is the patron of someone who will protect him, pay his legal fees/judgments, one might urge the Imam to remove the FB posting and apologize before Fadli's counsel gets around to filing suit.
Indeed.
But if, like the vast majority of people on the planet, he has no connection whatsoever with Indonesia then he can just ignore this ludicrous nonsense entirely.
Terry, I just checked that he's originally an Indonesian (born and grew up in Indonesia). However wiki says he's now an American citizen, which will mean that he's no longer an Indonesian.
This comment has been deleted
As you say, HM, he is no longer a WNI and so, ipso facto, cannot own land in Indonesia. Just what might he have in Indonesia that could be seized to pay any penalty imposed by an Indonesian court?
A wristwatch, perhaps?
You just can't sue someone for calling you stupid - it is not a crime to call someone stupid
....Siang, it's only in Fadli Zon's mind (that any sort of critics is considered a crime). He's a softie...
Imam Shamsi, also known as "hip hop" Imam, was considered a very tolerant Imam in the US. He's not prohibiting Muslims to play secular musics, encourage peace and even go as far as fostering friendship with the Jews. Since he went to US in 1997, he's been interacting with and known by the likes of US presidents(especially in the aftermath of 9/11) and a number of NY governments. I'm sure he's very respected by non-Muslim Americans. The likes of Fadli Zon won't appreciate this. Fadli Zon is no one.
