NICOLA Sturgeon has backed the thousands of Scots who took to the streets for a mass anti-austerity rally yesterday.

The Scotland United Against Austerity event in Glasgow took place as a demonstration was staged in London.

Organisers of the London event said the protests would be the biggest for years.
Sturgeon, addressing the STUC in Glasgow yesterday, said: “I want to offer my support to those marching with the STUC today against the harsh, deeply unfair Tory cuts that are causing real pain for many in Scotland and across the UK.
“Five years of Tory austerity has done too much damage
already; working families and vulnerable people cannot afford further UK government cuts.
“At Holyrood and at Westminster, the SNP will continue to make the strong case for an alternative to austerity to
ensure the most vulnerable people in our society do not continue to face the brunt of unfair Tory cuts.”
STUC general secretary Grahame Smith said yesterday that austerity “does not work”.
Organisers said about 75,000 people attended the march in London, which began after a rally outside the Bank of England and ended with another rally outside Parliament.
Among them were comedian Russell Brand and singer Charlotte Church, who brandished an End Austerity Now placard.
She said: “I’m here today in a show of solidarity with everyone here.”
Asked if she was inspired by the surge of the SNP, she said “absolutely”. The 29-year-old added: “But I think that the Scottish have been able to galvanise themselves against the Westminster elite.”

The little lady in now in over her head.

UK foreign policy is the purview of the democratically elected UK government and that government is not the SNP.

Of course MPs and the public shall be appraised of the negotiations between the UK and the EU.

To suggest that the SNP should somehow be consulted or involved in the negotiations is ludicrous.

And just as ludicrous as the SNPs anti austerity stance. If you can't pay your way you have two options borrow or take the more prudent route of austerity.

The choice is suck it up or go the way of Greece.

Nicola Stugeon is showing us she is not ready for prime time or her debut on the world stage.

Time to go back to the drawing board and learn the ropes before further embossing herself and the Scottish people.

Funny, We under spent last year by 100 million. So not much austerity there then. But it makes a good sound bite, Its aaaaalllllll the tory's fault, 8 years of failed education, 8 years of failing SNHS, both devolved and neither effected by cuts...hmmm so where does the blame lie

There was a time when every Scottish Labour MP would have been at the forefront of an anti austerity rally in Glasgow. But neither the one Tory lite MP or any other Tory light hopefuls turned up.
....and they wonder how they are going make Tory light credible in Scotland again !

Backing anti austerity when they underspend by 200m and then blame westminster..one day the SNP might take responsibility for themselves as adults have to.

These austerity cuts are causing so much pain in Scotland, the Scottish government had to overspend it's budget to attempt to lessen it's impact..

Hold on, the Scottish government has underspent by hundreds of millions, does that not add to austerity?

How can Nippy support this, but in reality add significantly to any so called austerity?

Unbelievable bare faced hypocrisy once more from the nationalists after the announcement of their having kept back £200m this year's budget after failing to spend £440m last year.

Vital services such as education, policing, the fire service, NHS and local councils are an utter shambles at the hands of these imbeciles while they FAIL TO SPEND THEIR BUDGETS on them, all the while complaining about WESTMINSTER cuts.

Unbelievable.

When will the cult start to see through them?

The best way to end austerity is get a job and stop living off hard working tax payers money.

Socialism is Scotland's tragedy.

The SNP back austerity otherwise why have they frozen council tax for 8 years? Why do they moan about austerity yet last year a £444 million and this year over 200 million, yet the cuts are £100 million which covers the yearly cost of BBC ALBA and Prestwick Intergalactic Spaceport.

If money is so tight why has Nippy Nic given herself a pay rise making her the highest paid politician in the UK.

Don't forget the SNP wanted cuts to the tube of 9 billion tgrough FFA or independence.

The transparency of the SNP shames Scotland.

The solution - unspoken by the anti-austerity crowd - is what exactly? The only one available is to inflate the economy artificially thereby deflating debt but also creating real inflation of prices. What does that achieve except even more hardship inflicted on the poor. There are no magic potions until the budget deficit is cured.

Says it all really, Russell Brand and Charlotte Church the high priests of economic thinking !
Just have a look at Greece and see where all the leftist looney -lets all retire at 50 thinking gets you. Sturgeon is an idiot who has never done a real days work in her life and has no concept of how modern economics work.

Here's an idea Ms Sturgeon; dont vote to give yourself a pay-rise and make sure you use all your budget before you start complaining about austerity. You might have some credibility then.
