Fort Myers laid off 21 firefighters. This is happening too often around the country. How much is a life worth?

  • Strengthen FMFD It's even crazier when you realize the minus the engineers and captains, THEY ONLY HAVE 21 FIREFIGHTERS PER SHIFT! Also, 2 months before the layoffs, the city started charging a Fire Assessment fee. Thank you so much for sharing this.

  • Alan Crawford This is not the only city this is happening in. Many of these firefighters were hired with grant money. The big problem is that the agencies didn't plan ahead for when the money ran out. Instead of banking the grant money they cut fire departments budgets and transferred the budgeted money from the fire department to other city departments.
