The police have arrested a man in the death last month of a 70-year-old Queens woman who was shot when she answered her front door.
The woman, Leta Webb, was sleeping on March 31 in her Jamaica home when someone was heard knocking. When Ms. Webb opened the front door, she was shot in the head and arm, and later pronounced dead at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center.
On Friday, the police arrested Julian Douglas, 22, who was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
A spokeswoman for the Police Department said the precinct had received a tip about the shooting that led them to Mr. Douglas.
She said that the shooting was possibly gang-related, but that the police were still investigating the encounter.
Mr. Douglas was arraigned on Saturday and remanded until Monday because a homicide defense attorney was not present, a spokeswoman for the Queens District Attorney’s office said.
