We shouldn't have to say this, but to anyone thinking of doing the 'Fire Challenge’ – DON’T. It's not big, it's not clever and you will almost certainly seriously injure yourself.
London Fire Brigade supports the burns charity RAFT who carry out medical research that helps people regain their quality of life, independence and dignity after major burns trauma. Find out more about their amazing work here http://www.raft.ac.uk/

Planning a spring clean over the long weekend? Don’t forget to clear out the loft. A lightning bolt struck the roof of a house in Pinner earlier this week and the fire was fuelled by the items being stored in the attic.
High levels of clutter not only make it much easier for a fire to start but also create a greater risk of fire spreading. It can also make it difficult to escape and can lead to difficulties for firefighters tackling the blaze.

  • Tom Allum Items stored in the attic?!! No one does that!!!
  • Paul Dadge I feel more than a little sorry for the owner. They've had the trauma through no fault of their own of having a house fire, the fire service who they fund through their taxes have then decided to have a pop about things they store in their loft "creating clutter". Hope you got permission from the house owner before using, abusing and taking photos inside their house for this piece.....

When bonfires go massively wrong! A bonfire was left unattended and quickly got out of control causing two homes to have severe damage in Selhurst. If you're planning on burning wood in your garden make sure you keep an eye on it and place it far away from property http://www.london-fire.gov.uk/LatestIncidentsContainer_18ma…

  • Lee Bradbury When my Dad was in the job (Middx & LFB) he turned out to an out-of-control bonfire; a fence, double garage and trees were well alight.
The wife of the man who'd started the bonfire point him out to the Crew and said in a loud voice....."He used to be a Fireman". There were a lot of smiling Firemen and one red-faced ex-Fireman in that garden.

The Brigade’s first fireboat, the Massey Shaw sets off from West India Docks tomorrow on her way to join a flotilla of Little Ships for the 75th anniversary commemorations of Dunkirk. She’ll spend a few days in the port of Ramsgate and Fire Cadets will form a guard of honour when visitors are allowed on board. A group of enthusiasts restored the Massey Shaw to her former glory, but she was not designed for use in the open sea, so the crew of volunteers are hoping for a flat calm when she crosses the Channel on Thursday.
