From Central Park Upper West Side Down to Old Neighborhood in Kips Bay, Firehouse....

Another beautiful morning in Central Park....joggers, cyclists and dog walkers out from crack of dawn in the cool, clean air..

Past ponds and babbling brook and waterfall

A 30 minute subway ride and a little walking and we are down almost four miles away...might as well be forty miles, into the uproar of Midtown Manhattan

Where the streets are always being dug up for something

To visit the firehouse and return the extra Ladder 7 cap they sent me..

And to talk to two of the Firemen there, "J.J." and his colleague ...to ask some questions about how they came to join the Fire Service and their most unusual experiences... ( " we see a little of everything here...Manhattan is crazy..")

And to reflect on the Memorial Wall... Ladder 7 lost a lot of its crew back on September 11..

Sad note...but this is a pretty happy Firehouse, it seems to me..pride of the Community...people down here love the Firefighting heroes who may save their lives and homes some day and come to the rescue for God knows what other kinds of emergencies..

Back to the subway...the more sedate Murray Hill area just to the North, but close in to busy 42nd Street and Grand Central Station

Great to meet these guys who make light of all the dangers they face and the stress of their job...

And then back home --from the sound of streets being torn up and traffic cop whistles to the endless birdsong of Central Park West ( not without its dangers...the first recorded auto fatality in the U.S. was up on CPW, someone speeding along in their merry Oldsmobile or whatever and striking an unwary pedestrian who was used to the horses on the leafy broad thoroughfare and not these crazy newfangled motor cars whizzing by..

Well, Here it all is:
