14/5/15 - Belgium's high level trade mission to Japan is at an end. For four days now Belgian politicians and businessmen have been selling Belgium to the Japanese. Several contracts have been signed including one for Leuven's IMEC and more are anticipated.

14/5/15 - A torch run signalled the start of the Special Olympics in Brussels. Until Saturday athletes with a mental disability will be competing for Olympic gold.



Bill de Blasio declares "In Flanders Fields Day"

13/5/15 - The Flemish Prime Minister Geert Bourgeois has joined war veterans at the municipal war monument in New York to mark the centenary of the writing of "In Flanders Fields". Canadian army doctor John McCrae wrote the poem exactly one hundred years ago. To mark the occasion the New York Mayor Bill de Blasio has declared 12 May "In Flanders Fields Day".

Canadian airman shot down over Belgium returns

Today, 94-year-old Bill Robertsen paid a visit to Bokrijk for the first time in 71 years. The Canadian ex-bombing marksman's plane was taken down here by the Nazis during World War 2. The site hosted a big commemoration today, during which Mr Robertsen was joined by Guy Jaspers, the son of Robertsen's Belgian saviour, Rene Jaspers, who helped the American/Canadian squadron get to Britain safely.

Can long dead shark help to rescue today’s endangered species?

13/5/15 - A case in the Royal Atheneum in Ostend contains a hidden gem: a bramble shark measuring 1.70 metres. It was caught and stuffed in 1893 and is now being handed over to scientists to help preserve other fish stocks.
