Three other people also suffered injuries. Kalbadev is an old and densely populated neighborhood in Mumbai, India.The fire reportedly started from the electricity meter room on the ground floor around 1630 hours and spread quickly at a building that is more than 50 years old. The fire has since been brought under control. The Firefighters who died were identified as Assistant Divisional Officer SW Rane and Station Officer MN Desai. NOTE:  The city’s fire brigade Chief Sunil iNesrikar suffered 50% burns, while Deputy Chief G Amin was fighting for life with 80% burns. Both were admitted to the National Burn Center at Airoli. [ more ]        Tweet   FATAL FIRE APPARATUS CRASH: Man Killed in Kentucky Crash With Fire Vehicle  Saturday, May 9, 2015   Kentucky State Police say a Northern Kentucky motorcyclist has died in a crash with a fire department vehicle on a run in central Kentucky.Police said a sport utility vehicle from the Danville Fire Department was responding to a vehicle fire Friday morning south of Danville. Investigators said as the SUV entered an intersection, the motorcycle hit the passenger's side of the SUV. The motorcycle driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger on the motorcycle was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The motorcycle driver was identified as Edward Weiss, 67, of Fort Wright. Two other vehicles were involved in a collision as the fire department vehicle came to a stop near the intersection. Police said the SUV had its emergency equipment activated at the time of the crash, and both people on the motorcycle were wearing helmets.       Tweet   CLOSE CALL AT CT HOUSE FIRE - SMOKE EXPLOSION  YouTube Video  Saturday, May 9, 2015   Thick smoke and violent explosions, possibly from ignited gasoline, forced two adults and a baby from their Waterbury home Thursday night, according to police and officials with the Red Cross. "I noticed the smoke. I dialed 911, and shortly after that, we heard two, three explosions. And after that it just went up in flames," said Duwane Digsby, who lives next door to the burning three-family house at 69 Dikeman Street. Digsby said emergency officials told him and his family to leave their home when explosions rang out, forcing firefighters to exit the building and fight flames from the outside. "Blew out all the windows. We were lucky we didn't have guys up there," said Deputy Fire Chief Richard Paltauf. "There were some motorcycles on the third floor. Maybe it was the gasoline from that." [ more ]       Tweet   2 FL FFs BURNED AT FIRE  Saturday, May 9, 2015   Two firefighters were injured Friday night while battling a house fire, according St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue. The firefighters received what the agency said appeared to be first-degree burns and were taken to Bayfront Health for treatment. The crew extinguished a fire that began about 9 p.m. at 3900 Seventh St. S., according to the agency. The occupants were able to get out unharmed.         Tweet   3 FFs INJURED - 2 CRITICAL AFTER FIRE IN INDIA  Saturday, May 9, 2015    Three firemen were injured, two of them seriously, in a fire in an underrenovation building in congested Kalbadevi in south Mumbai on Saturday evening. Two senior fire officers were still trapped in the collapsed building till late on Saturday, authorities said. Deputy Chief Fire Officer Sudhir Amin suffered 90 per cent burns and was first taken to Bombay Hospital and later to Airoli Burns Centre in Navi Mumbai. Chief Fire Officer Sunil Nesrikar sustained 40 per cent burns and he too has been admitted the Airoli Burns Centre. Dr Vinay Jacob, a plastic surgeon with Bombay Hospital, said Amin's respiratory tract was completely damaged. According to eyewitnesses Amin and Nesrikar were trapped under the debris when the burning building collapsed. [ more ]       Tweet   IL GROCERY STORE FIRE INJURES 4 FFs  Saturday, May 9, 2015     Three firefighters were sent to the hospital Thursday while fighting the fire that destroyed Girard's only grocery store.The flames, which drew 17 fire trucks from five departments, likely stemmed from an electrical fire that started about 4 p.m. in the older part of the County Market along Illinois 4.Three firefighters were taken by ambulance to Memorial Medical Center in Springfield during the roughly seven-hour battle, said John Earley, the Girard emergency manager and president of the Girard Fire Protection District. One had burns from his ears to his neck, and two suffered from heat exhaustion. Two were released Thursday night, and the third was scheduled for release Friday morning. Another had a cut on his face but returned to fighting the fire after treatment on scene. Five store employees were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene, Earley said, but none of them required hospitalization.more ]       Tweet   MAYDAY VIDEO FROM LANSING, MI  MayDay Video  Saturday, May 9, 2015    Lansing MI, Fire Fighter MAYDAY Rescue caught on video (several angles)  On Friday March 20, 2015 at 5:58 am the Lansing Fire Department responded with 3 Engine companies, 2 Truck companies, 2 Battalion Chiefs, and 1 Medic unit (25 personnel total) to a residential structure fire. During the initial attack the nozzle man, after sounding the floor, crawled on to a wood living room floor and subsequently fell thru the collapsed floor into the basement. Fire was visible across the basement ceiling at times and the smoke conditions were heavy. A MAYDAY was called by the nozzle man’s company officer and Rapid Intervention was immediately deployed. [ more ]       Tweet   3 NY STATE FFs INJURED AT BRUSH FIRE  WBNG Video  Saturday, May 9, 2015     A massive brush fire in Chenango County tore through almost 20 acres of forest Thursday evening.A call came in for mutual aid to Cross Road in the town of German at approximately 3 p.m. Initial reports claimed flames as high as 15 feet were making their way through a pine forest at Red Brook State Forest. Greene EMS, Chenango County Emergency Services Bureau of Fire and forest rangers were called in to assist. 17 fire departments from multiple counties were also on scene to help fight the blaze. An Albany State Police helicopter was flown in to monitor the progression of the fire, and track how far it was spreading. Officials said the fire is under control, but there are still hotspots. According to fire officials, three firefighters were injured while fighting the flames. The call didn't go thru Detroit Fire Communications, who dispatches for HP, so the HP crew told the DFD Dispatcher they were responding. Doing her job, the DFD dispatcher asked the HPFD officer "Do you want the box?" meaning do you want a full first alarm that includes automatic aid from the DFD? Nope-they decided they would give it their best, without adequate staffing, equipment, command and control. Listen for yourself on the video link below. [ more ]        Radio Traffic  Tweet   FF FALLS THROUGH FLOOR AT FIRE IN TN  WMC Action News 5 - Memphis, Tennessee WMCTV Video  Thursday, May 7, 2015   One firefighter was taken to the hospital after being injured while battling a fire at the Kimball Cabana Apartments in the 1200 block of Haynes Street.MFD was called to the fire around 2 a.m. Wednesday. The fire damaged four apartments. Fire officials say the apartments were vacant. The injured firefighter was taken to Methodist University Hospital. Lt. Wayne Cooke says the firefighter injured his knee. It is believed he fell through a floor of an apartment. Fire investigators say the fire was intentionally set in one of the apartments.       Tweet   CA FF SUFFERS FACIAL BURNS AFTER SEMI FIRE  Thursday, May 7, 2015    A captain with the Stockton Fire Department sustained minor facial burns while fighting a big rig fire that proved difficult to extinguish following a collision that snarled traffic Wednesday on Interstate-5 and the Crosstown Freeway, officials said. A 2005 Freightliner and a 2000 Chevy S10 pickup collided about 10:25 a.m. while both vehicles were traveling south on I-5 just south of the Crosstown Freeway interchange about 10:25 a.m., blocking the middle two lanes, the California Highway Patrol said. The Freightliner was driven by Kamaljat Singh, 39, of Kentfield, Wash., the Highway Patrol said. The S10 was driven by Joseph Aguilar, 19, of Manteca, officers said. Neither driver was reported injured. Moments after the crash, the Freightliner and the S10 burst into flames, sending thick black smoke billowing into the air west of downtown Stockton. [ more ]       Tweet   13 NJ FFs INJURED IN CHEMICAL FIRE  Thursday, May 7, 2015   Thirteen firefighters were taken to area hospitals for treatment Wednesday after fighting a garage fire in Hamilton that contained chlorine, fire officials said.The 2:45 p.m. fire ripped through two large garages in the 2000 block of South Broad Street, gutting the buildings and at destroying two vehicles parked inside one of the garages, firefighters and witnesses said. One of the garages contained a container of chlorine, the kind used in backyard pools, and when it burned it caused a gas that caused several firefighters to suffer respiratory injuries, fire officials said. At about 3:15 p.m., as an odor of a chemical hung in the air, fire officials and Hamilton police officers moved onlookers out of the immediate block, saying the fumes from the chlorine would be harmful to inhale. [ more ]       Tweet   DCFD FIRE OFFICER DIES IN THE LINE OF DUTY  Wednesday, May 6, 2015   DC Fire & EMS Department Lt. Kevin McRae died in the Line of Duty this morning. Lt. McRae was in charge of first due Engine 6 at a two-alarm high-rise fire in the 1200 block of 7th Street, NW. After exiting the building, Lt. McRae collapsed and went into cardiac arrest. CPR was started immediately. Lt. McRae was pronounced dead at the Washington Hospital. Center. A second firefighter was treated and released from the hospital. Lt. McRae was 44 and is survived by his wife, three children and his mother. The last line-of-duty-death for the DC Fire and EMS Department was Lt. McRae’s cousin, Technician James McRae III, who died on July 7, 2007. James McRae was tillerman at Truck 12 when he complained of shortness of breath while in quarters and died later that day. Lt. Kevin McRae is the 100th DC firefighter to die in the line-of-duty. He joined the department as a cadet on July 31, 1989. DaveS has much more on this tragic loss at www... [ more ]       Tweet   Ohio Fire Station Destroyed By Fire  Wednesday, May 6, 2015    A fire Sunday night destroyed the Florence Township Fire Department.Reports came in around 6:30 p.m. about a fire at 201 S. Michigan Street in Edon. All of the department’s fire equipment was destroyed and Edon Police Chief Tom Szymczak said the building had major damage. No firefighters or personnel were in the volunteer fire house when the fire started. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined. The department is meeting on Monday to figure out what they are going to do until the department is rebuilt. In the meantime, other departments in the area will take over responding to incidents in Florence Township. A GoFundMe account has already been set up in the department’s name to help cover the costs of replacing equipment.
