Thursday, May 21, FDNY hosted the annual FDNY EMS Health Fair and EMS Competition at MetroTech Plaza in Brooklyn. The 15th Annual EMS Competition featured FDNY Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and Paramedics from across the New York City testing their life-saving skills against one another in a series of real-life scenarios that include mock patients. This year, teams were met by an incident involving a stage collapse at a rock concert that caused multiple injuries, and required careful and skillful assessment of those sick and injured.

"In 2014, FDNY responded 1.6 million times when New Yorkers reached out to us for help and we provided outstanding medical care, bringing comfort and compassion to those who need it most," said Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro. "Today's competition showcased the exceptional skills of FDNY's EMTs and Paramedics who protect and serve the people of this city and who make an immediate, positive impact in every neighborhood and community."

The Basic Life Support competition was won by EMTs Marcus Brandon, Jerry Granillo and Roy Zuniga form Station 14 in the Bronx. Second place was won by EMTs Miguel Perez, Michael Paulino and Adam Stern from Station 4 in Manhattan. And the third place was taken by EMTs William Curley, Daniel Claus and Niall Rouse from Station 31 in Brooklyn.

The Advanced Life Support competition was won by Paramedics David Cadogen, Miguel Ayala-Flores and Josephine Kwok from Station 26 in the Bronx. Second place was taken by Paramedics Namwu Kim, Anthony Kendall and Andrew Reiner from Station 16 in Manhattan. And the third place was taken by Paramedics Kimberly Benson, Nicholas Cordova and Mohmedris Zanpawala form Station 50 in Queens.

"This competition reinforced our core principles of teamwork and communication," said Paramedic Namwu Kim. "That's all that matters - teamwork."
