On May 15, FDNY held a recognition ceremony for Department personnel who have served to protect life and property in New York City for more than 20 years, as well as those full-time staff who have completed a university degree over the past year. The ceremony was held at Fire Department Headquarters in Brooklyn and was widely attended by the personnel assigned there.

"This shows how the Fire Department is a place like no other," Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro said during the event at FDNY Headquarters. "Every one of you here today has helped save lives."

Among those recognized was Clerical Associate Dorothy Welks, who has worked for the FDNY for 45 years, and EMS Lieutenants Roy David and Charles Flores, who have each served with the Department for 40 years.

"We all work as a team, without you - we can't do our job," said Chief of EMS James P. Booth. "I want to thank you, wish you all a great day and congratulations on your accomplishment."

In total, one person was honored for 45 years of service, two for 40 years, 27 with 35 years, 57 with 30 years, 130 with 25 years and 65 for 20 years, and one was honored for educational achievement.
