Big Reveal: $985K For Renovated 1900 Wallingford Farmhouse

Yesterday, we asked you to guess the asking price for this renovated and remodeled 1900 farmhouse in Wallingford (yes, there probably used to be farms there before QFC moved in). We got some solid guesses in the $1M-$1.1M range but we're awarding the win to angeline, who guessed $950K. That's pretty close to the actual ask of $985K. Rustic on the outside, the inside is like living in an artistic showpiece. Light throughout, custom built-in cabinetry, chef's kitchen, dining room opens to patio and an attic room with a rooftop deck. So now that you know, does that price sound right to you?

Cornerspotted: The Spires of St. Spiridon

Yesterday, we asked you to guess where this 1953 Seattle spot is. Fnarf was pretty quick on the draw and called it, Harrison Street looking at Yale Avenue with St. Spiridon Orthodox Cathedral on the right.

St. Spiridon was founded in 1905 and, despite all of the development all around it, seems like it's not going anywhere anytime soon.

This Video Tour of an Abandoned Asylum Looks Straight Out of a Horror Film

Screenshot via Vimeo
Ruin porn goes cinematic in "Project Senium," a debut release from a group of filmmakers determined to preserve the experience of incredible abandoned spaces through elaborate short films. This video, just under 10 minutes, takes you through the ruins of a massive asylum that's been left to decay for nearly 20 years. Compared to similar projects documenting an abandoned seminary or an entire city, "Project Senium" involves a more dramatic soundtrack and more panic-inducing fast-forwarded shots, plus a haunting narrative voiceover.

FLOATING HOME OF THE DAY

$475K Houseboat Just Around Corner From Gas Works Park

You've worked hard enough to take some time to watch the fireworks from Gas Works. But watching from the park is too much of a hassle with finding room around the droppings, negotiating for a place to spread your blanket, having the deal with porta-potties, and then dragging yourself through traffic. Or. You could buy a houseboat on the lake, just east of the park. There's a 1988, 2 story with 2 bedrooms and 1 full bath with an asking price of $475,000. That's only a bit above Seattle's median price, and you get front row seats to the skyline and the show. Through the rest of the year you get a rather Scandinavian modern house with the tasteful simplicity that implies. Some nautical design stepped in with built-ins, under seat storage, and a concession to space that puts the laundry in a bedroom. Living in 900 square feet means using space efficiently. After you settle in, and possibly downsize and declutter, you'll probably just spend a lot of time looking out the window, watching the boats and the city - and every few months having one of the best seats for the fireworks.

Cornerspotter: Everything Changes Except Those Spires

Cornerspotter is the Curbed Seattle feature in which we show you a historical photo taken somewhere in the city and you identify the location. Impress fellow Curbed readers with your knowledge by leaving guesses in the comments or send them to our tipline: seattle@curbed.com. We'll post the answer on Friday. And hey: no cheating!

If you've lived here long enough, you probably recognize those spires right away. You might not recognize much else in this photo, though. Even though this is from 1953, you'd be hard-pressed to find a Seattle neighborhood that's changed so much in such little time. Those two buildings in the foreground are long gone (though the house next to the church is still there) and you'll find new condos on the next block down. Any idea what intersection we're looking at?

Where to Eat and Drink in Leavenworth; New Restaurant from RockCreek Owners

This week's top hits from Eater Seattle, Curbed's sibling bar, restaurant, and nightlife blog.

EATER MAPS -- Bavarian-themed Leavenworth is super cheesy. But if you look beyond the facades, this mountain town just over two hours from Seattle has plenty of worthwhile places to patronize. Next time you're in Leavenworth to hike, raft, visit the Nutcracker Museum, or get drunk and float down the river in a tube, here are 13 great optionsfor eating and drinking.
COMING ATTRACTIONS -- Another Creek is coming. Several weeks ago, Eater shared the (joyous) news that RockCreek chef Eric Donnellyand his partner Christy Given were opening a new restaurant in Greenwood. Here now, the name of the new space will be FlintCreek Cattle Co, and the concept—from a pair so far known for their seafood—will be meat galore.
VITAL UPDATES -- Naming a restaurant after an automobile makes perfect sense for Roz Edison and Kamala Saxton (Marination, Good Bar). The pair got their start, after all, roaming Seattle in their Big Blue truck in 2009; fast forward now and here comes their sixth project in as many years: the newly christened Super Six in Columbia City. Taking over a former automotive garage with vaulted ceilings on 3714 S Hudson Street, Super Six is named for a Hudson Motor Company sedan released in 1948.

Nobody Wants to Buy the Mansion from Scarface

IS1zrbjenvr5ci1000000000.jpg
The real life estate that played the role of a lifetime as Tony Montana's mansion in the 1983 movie Scarface hit the market last year asking $35 million, and was reportedly still asking that as of two months ago. The Neoclassical Santa Barbara (though the movie was set in Miami) El Fureidis ("Little Paradise") mansion has had no luck finding a buyer, however, and as Lighter Side of Real Estate points out, the listing just reappeared with a significantly reduced asking price, down to $17.8 million. Apparently, the owner, Russian billionaire Sergey Grishin, has lost faith in the property's cultural cache as a selling point. The listing doesn't even mention the movie anymore.

How Much for This Renovated 1900 Wallingford Farmhouse?

PriceSpotter is Curbed's asking price guessing game. We provide you with some details and pictures from a real estate listing, and you take a crack at the price in the comments. Tomorrow we reveal the answer. And hey, no cheating!
What Is It?: Remodeled farmhouse from 1900 that's been turned into a modern 4-BR home
Home Square Footage: 2,676
Annual Taxes: $6,874
The Skinny: Don't know what kind of shape this place was in before an architect got their hands on it but it's quite the modern marvel now. Rustic on the outside, the inside is like living in an artistic showpiece. Light throughout, custom built-in cabinetry, chef's kitchen, dining room opens to patio and an attic room with a rooftop deck. So, what do you think they're asking for it?
ON THE MARKET

How Long Are Seattle Houses on the Market, Anyway?

A factoid hit the news earlier this week that the average time to sell a house in Seattle is only 9 days. That's the average. That means some are being bought up in minutes, but it also means some are taking longer, much longer if you follow The Long Game series. Some of those houses have been waiting years for buyers. So, really how many houses have been on the market for days, weeks, months, and years? And, what do some of them look like? We did a quick check, and had to be fast because the numbers can shift every hour
time%20on%20market%20052015b.png
Data from Zillow
When we checked, Seattle had just over 1,000 houses, apartments, condos, etc. for sale; and King County had just over 4,600. Seattle has a big clump of about 240 that have had signs up for a week, and then there's a gap until the next clump around 1-3 months. After that, there are only 150 or so that are stretching the patience of the sellers and agents. In all of King County, including Seattle, there's that big crowd hanging out for a few months, and there is a smaller crowd gathering around that one week mark; but the trends are more gradual. Out there, though, there are almost 700 homes gathering spider webs on their For Sale signs. King County's numbers are about four times larger though, but the County covers a lot more ground than the City.
