Historic Ansonia Pad Fulfills All Your Window-Seat Fantasies

A historic, turreted former hotel-turned-condo on the Upper West Side, the 111-year-old Ansonia is a long-standing Curbed obsession. This particular apartment,  a sprawling specimen that just hit the market, has been renovated—"restored and expanded beyond its original 1904 size, deftly combining clean modern lines with stunning turn-of-the-century details." The five-bedroom apartment has almost double that number of window seats (nine!), including one in the master suite's walk-in closet. Fine, one's a banquette for a breakfast nook, but still. All of the cozy benches of your dreams—for reading, canoodling, or people-watching—come with a price tag of $7,795,000.

About as soulless as a Dakota apartment can be... And what's the deal with the two orphaned bedrooms? For your secret wives?
And by Dakota I meant Ansonia
Jeesh, that apartment was ruined. WTF is with the "air shaft"?
Those rooms at the bottom of the layout look like an office and a waiting room. Look like a great space for a chiropractor or massage parlor ;-)
@zuni: because the Ansonia is so large, there are a number of "air shafts" that allow some light and air into the interior of many of the apartments.
I like it. I dunno about you lot, but I've seen some really ugly and awkward listings at the Ansonia, and this isn't one of them.
for the ansonia I like it because most of the layouts are horrible.
But whats with the windows, they look like double sets of windows???
The layout is fine until you get to the master bedroom side, then it gets not so good...........that part needs to be laid out better.
The rooms have been re-assigned. The two stray bedrooms off the master were part of an adjacent apartment. The master was originally the dining room, master bath original kitchen, the family room and kitchen were a bedroom. You can see the original floorplans on link. This unit is top right corner along 73rd st
Since the appended apartment has effectively only enlarged the master bedroom suite, the combined apartment is really only an unattractive three-bedroom apartment.
The original layout was better.
The new kitchen is so large, they didn't know what to do with the space. The sofa and odd TV placement make the room weird.
I dislike the master bath, and intensely dislike the dressing room.
They've attached a lot of crap to the walls. Most buyers will be doing a lot of remodeling.
And note the drapes vs. window seat problem in the great room.
The gym could easily be a maid's room.
An exceptional landmark. I have spent much time other apartments here. This listing needs a prof stager immediately. Good Luck!
There's a reason the Ansonia has one of the highest rates of suicide. I read that it held a record at one point. The layout of this apartment, ESPECIALLY the bedroom situation, would make the most stoic think about jumping.
Luckily, it's filled with window seats, so you have a comfortable place to write your will or suicide note.
