Biggest complaint: poor customer service (rudeness, etc.)--but others say OK. AND that it is not like a suburban Megastore

Kennington, London, UKReally reasonable prices, but a slightly overwhelming amount of stock! Better than a lack of stock though of course. It is well organised and the staff seem knowledgable.
Very convenient location and really friendly security guy on the door! -

I only stopped by to pick up my race packet for The Color Run this weekend. So I can't say much about the store/prices/employees, except that the first floor looked very clusterfuck-like. As I walked through toward the stairs for the second floor, I felt bombarded by all the items.
What was cool: TCR offered a 15% off a Sports Authority purchase. Not that I planned on buying anything, but I should have considered purchasing a new pair of shorts for the run. Oh well.
Location is very convenient. It was about a five minute walk from GCT. And, since it was the 4th of July, we didn't have to deal with the idiotic crowds on 42nd, or insane amounts of traffic. -

New York, NYThis store has a good selection of sports stuff. They have all sorts of shoes, different rackets, and carry your usual Nike, Under Armor, Champion, Adidas etc.
There are 2 floors- the first floor has mostly clothes. The second floor is where you can find your shoe. I was surprised they had a great selection of KT tape here. The first floor had lots of different types of gels too. -

The staff was very helpful and they have a wide range of swimming gear year round. I just had an issue with some Speedo bathing suits that I found that were clearly marked down from $75 to $35. However, when I got to the register I was told that this was an error. Even though more than one bathing suit had been similarly marked down. Two trips up and down the stairs later, I came away with an entirely different bathing suit. I'm sure if I made a bigger stink and called the manager I could have gotten the other bathing suit for the marked down price, but ain't nobody got time for that. -

A lot sport-wears to choose from. Prices are very reasonable and the quality is good also. I try to come here when there are coupons flying around on the internet.
Second floor is where you can find the footwear. Staff is quick with getting you the sizes you want. They do have limited colors and styles but don't be discourage to ask them if you don't see something you want.
Layout is pretty self-explanatory and things can be easily found. Racks are organized and neat. -

The epitome of "meh."
There's a poor shoe selection, particularly of women's tennis sneakers. I called ahead to ask if they had women's tennis sneakers in stock, and they assured me they did. Of the 5 or 6 shoes I asked to see, they had ONE style in my size (8.5).
They're also more concerned with theft, apparently, than allowing people to try on their wares for fit. The right shoe had one of those huge anti-theft plastic bobs through the shoelace hole, preventing me from tying the laces to see how it would fit normally.
The staff near the sneakers seemed put out when I asked them to find shoes in my size.
The apparel selection on the first floor is decent, but given the service issues and the poor stock, next time I need sneakers or athletic wear, off to Paragon I will go. -

Financial District, Manhattan, NYGood customer service -

Pretty straightforward Sports Authority with unobtrusive staff. The changing area was a bit unorganized and dirty, but the regular displays are well-stocked and easily distinguished.
I feel like their sales signs are sometimes difficult to understand, namely sometimes the sale is reflected on the tag, but often times it's not.
I got a $10 gift card for spending over $50, so that was a nice surprise. -

New York, NYThis place sucks. Yes, they have your basic sports apparel and equipment, but I would not recommend going unless you had no other options. Horrible layout, employees who know very little about the store and do not hide how unhappy they are to be working there. -
Review from Karen C.
The customer service here is pretty terrible and sales people are useless when it comes to answering your questions. I was looking for one of the water bottles that has a holder you can slide on your hand so you don't have to grip it the whole time you're running but the lady had no clue what I was talking about. It's pretty standard running gear so I couldn't believe they didn't have one.
Otherwise, nice selection of clothes, specifically, Under Armour and Nike.
As another reviewer said, fitting rooms are kind of dirty looking/grungy. -

This is a pretty no-shit realization, but this location of the Sports Authority franchise is nothing like the resourceful megacenters beyond city limits. Even a couple douchey guys who were wearing all three brands featured in this store snorted, "Wanna go to Clarke's" (by which I assume they meant PJ Clarke's), and took off.
Here, you will find no bathroom, changing rooms where the toilets should be, and a bunch of equipment for tennis and golf, should someone residing in the Northeastern United States wish to take up either of these sports in the dead of winter. This is also a fantastic place to go if you want a marked up Underarmour sports bra in black or I'm-a-woman pink, or a bunch of slippery feeling socks that are so low you know you'd rip up your ankles on your sneakers despite their "no slip technology."
The things I was hoping for but wasn't necessarily surprised not to find here:
- A long, fleece-lined swim jacket or surf changing robe
The things I'd be able to find at any other respectable sporting goods store, but did not find here:
-Boys' youth sized baseball tees (I know that the converse situation would be a 10 year old pitcher wearing a bra top halter from Victoria's Secret for practice, but it's not like that, I swear)
-Snap-sided tear way warmup pants
- A plain swimsuit (there were only fancy ones with dizzying patterns and straps that you could tell would hurt like hell after the first ten laps)
-Ankle socks with at least some cotton content (by which I mean socks that HAVE ankles, not socks that end below the ankles) in a size smaller than Medium through X-Large
-A small, plain duffel bag so I can carry my gym shit in something that is not a wide, open tote bag that I got for free for subscribing to the New Yorker and now looks like an issue of the magazine itself after a rainstorm
A trio of hot pink socks held my attention momentarily, but then I couldn't stomach the idea of paying NYC sales tax on socks a size bigger. I kept imagining them scrunching up under my feet while I'm on the treadmill, and decided to just hit up a Dick's the next time I'm in tax free NH. Until then, it's the same ratty socks, pinchy swimsuit, and disintegrating tote bag for me.
No but really, this place is fine for more than half of all active New Yorker's I've seen, who all wear the same brands and same colors and buy products for light jogging in the park or meditative yoga in athletic clubs. Hence, three stars. -

New York, NYSo... I didn't really have a memorable experience at Sports Authority... I wasn't going in to browse around and shop... I was on a lunch-break mission and that was all.
However, I did notice that a lot of the other people that did not understand what kind of running gear they should buy were being helped by staff... and they were actually giving pretty good advice about cold weather running gear... So even though my experience was pretty uninteresting... it seemed like the staff knew the products and were willing to help. (no grumpy retail attitudes!)
this sports authority is a short walk from work.. so I will probably go back if in need of more sports apparel. -

Brooklyn, NYWARNING: Be careful when purchasing something, you will NOT be able to return or exchange it ever!
I bought a pair of $170.00 sneakers here 2 weeks ago realizing they were too small when I got home. I didnt have the box with me when I went back to the store and they downright refused not just a refund but also an exchange for a bigger pair! And, they were spotless!
Horrific customer service, the manager is total thug.
Never ever buying anyhing from there again. -

I stopped in here to get a swimsuit while on my way to the new 24 hour fitness center which is only a couple of blocks north from here. I found the swimsuit, and the employees were helpful. The sign said 20 % off but then it wasn't reflected in the price at the cashier. The swimsuit employee went down there and confirmed the sign said it was 20% off and they said they would credit my card and it finally showed up. The charge and the credit were run at the same time and the charge shows up on my statement and the credit.
The changing area was well organized and clean and the regular displays are well-stocked and easily distinguished.
