Easy, polite and great location. I travel a lot. This trip I stayed at a 4 star hotel and then here. I was farmer happier here.

The rooms are designed to eek out every little bit of space. It's like a tiny bedroom at home or tiny guest room. But the beds are comfy, the design makes sense and its clever.

Great shower, nice bath products and the air conditioning saved my life. Did I mention its a great location?

    Love it.

Pod 39 is a good deal - close to Grand Central (which has now become a great shopping/restaurant area) in a good neighborhood on a quiet street. The room was OK for one person with all the basics required for someone who was going to be out of the room most of the day. The heat/airconditioning needs a bit of refinement - the heat cycles and blows cold air strongly on the bed for a few minutes before the heat kicks in - better to get the room the way you want it and then turn off the system for the night. The rainfall shower was beautiful with lots of hot water and the rooms had nice toiletries and towels - not too spartan! The rooms were very clean and housekeeping did a good job.

Unfortunately the terrific rooftop bar was closed for the season (although worth the trip up to enjoy the view) and the restaurant has been closed indefinitely which was a disappointment but there are so many great restaurants around it's not too serious a loss.

The rooftop bar is raved about for all the right reasons but I was a fan of both the location (being so close to Grand Central Station) and the clean, modern feel of the rooms and hotel.  At times felt like I was staying in an IKEA showroom but it really makes you think about how much space you actually need in a hotel room.  Given that I spend all of my time out in the city, a small place for a reduced cost makes a ton of sense.

The rooms themselves have everything you need and packs it in efficiently while still making the space feel inviting.  I'd stay again.

*This review is strictly for the rooftop bar*

I did not stay at the POD, but grabbed drinks here with a group on a Sunday evening before dinner.

This rooftop bar is beautiful. Amazing view of the city, and heat lamps all around so you avoid getting chilly. Super cool, super chill vibe. The bartender was gregarious and happy to talk to you about the mixed cocktails and offer suggestions. He even tried to get the boy's mom to do birthday shots. Tee-hee!

I ended up going for the "Fly by Night". Oh.My.God. Amaaaaaazing. Yes, it was $13 but not light handed on the alcohol content. And given the location and the fact that it is quite a cozy spot to grab a libation, $13 isn't extremely ridiculous and on par with places in NYC. They also had a nice pumpkin beer on tap ($8). Two cocktails and one beer = $34.

My only regret is that we were running late for dinner and had to leave. I would have liked to stayed here a bit longer.

This was my second time staying here and I had a much better experience this time than I did last year. My colleagues laugh at me for staying in a pod hotel, but when everything else in town is over $350 a night because the UN is in town, choices are limited and at least I knew that this hotel is clean and up-to-date.

The rooms are definitely small but the double pod isn't really much smaller than rooms in non-pod hotels. (I had a single this time and it was really small--but it worked just fine.) My only real complaint is about the Kleenex-sized towels, but overall this is a good option for a solo traveler, whether traveling for business or leisure. (I would never, ever, ever try to share one of these rooms with someone--not even my husband.)

For the location, you are in for a great deal when you stay at the Pod.  It's right in the heart of the hustle and bustle of NY.  We walked through Times Square and got on the subway just a block away

My brother and I were on a recent trip to New York. We shared a "Pod".

It really is small -- even smaller than some dorm rooms I've been in. There is one bunk bed, but both beds are very comfortable and come with flatscreens at the foot of them (although if you're in NY, you really shouldn't even be watching TV). Bonus for having two pillows. The space is really intimate (by which I mean tiny), conservative but in a well-thought out way, so be aware of that when booking this kind of room.

Air conditioning is fantastic, really customizable to how you like it. There is one small window in the corner that opens up (no window screen though). The bathroom is actually quite large and spacious with a very large mirror. The towels are so tiny! I'm a petite 5'3'' girl and they just barely covered everything! I think that's my only complaint though, and one I could live with anyways since I was only coming back to the room to crash, shower, and get dressed.

Fantastic location. Walking distance from Grand Central, Bryant Park, K-Town, Times Square, Empire State & Rockefeller Center. There are also a bunch of Embassies scattered around the area. And in case you're looking for the hotel: It's between 38th and 39th on Lexington. Took us a bit to find it seeing as the streets are long and densely packed with so many cool buildings and places.

Also, staff were really friendly and went out of their way to help you out. Unfortunately, they aren't the best with recommending nightlife (probably because most if not all didn't grow up in New York) -- but they were very polite and expedient.

I would definitely come back to Pod 39 again. Great experience here.

What makes the POD hotel amazing is the rooftop bar. It's spectacular. And the bar downstairs is pretty neat too.

    The rooms... Eh.

I stayed with my boyfriend and we are not shy around each other. I could handle the VERY tiny room with a double bed BUT. The bathroom was separated by a sliding glass door that didn't completely close on top nor did it lock or serve any kind of noise/blocking purpose other than to not DIRECTLY see each other. But um. There's only a section of glass that is frosted, so um. You can pretty much see in and hear everything that's happening in the bathroom. Good for single travelers, not so great if you are staying with a friend.

The hotel itself was just fine and I loved the convenient location to everything. I'll take it.

As long as you aware the rooms are TINY, you'll have a great stay.

Roof top bar is a must. Great views, great drinks and cool staff.

The Mexican restaurant is well worth a visit.

The only down side was the glass door on the bathroom. Sorry, but when I want to go to the bathroom I want privacy. Not sure if all rooms are like this though.

Fellow business travellers: this place is a solid, economical option. Check it out.

You know the room will be tiny. After reading reviews I was afraid I would spend my stay knocking things over and banging into stuff. But if you're like me and stay reasonably organized when you travel, room size is no big deal and plenty large enough. The glass-wall bath is a non-issue if you're by yourself (Although I've been married 20 years and would still think twice about this whole bathroom situation if I was here with my wife).

Clean, quiet, well-wired rooms. And an upbeat young crowd that gives the place decent energy. Great experience overall.

I spent two nights at the Pod 39 in early June. I was well aware that I had booked a "pod-style" hotel, but it was still a bit of a shock to see just how tiny the pod really was! Not a big deal since I was traveling by myself, but kind of funny nonetheless.

Overall, I was pretty pleased with this stay and I would definitely stay here again. The hotel itself is sleek and modern - love the glass elevators - though I have to say my pod felt more like a dorm room than a hotel room. I had a twin bed with under-bed storage, a metal rack on the wall, and a small bathroom. The sliding glass door in the bathroom does not afford much privacy, but the bottom of the glass is frosted so it is possible to use the toilet while someone else is in the room. Granted, you have to be on pretty intimate terms with that person, but come on... you're in a Pod.

The location was very convenient - just a few blocks from Grand Central, and a short walk to Times Square. I really liked being in the Murray Hill neighborhood and there were plenty of options with the restaurant on the bottom floor and Starbucks/Pret/etc nearby.

I don't think I would stay here again unless I was traveling solo, but since that's exactly what I was doing this time around, the Pod was perfect for me!

This review for Rooftop Lounge & Bar only.

Fun place to meet after work. Close to Grand Central.

It's an open outdoor rooftop lounge (17th floor) with panoramic view of skyline.

Friendly waitstaff. We liked the homemade guacamole served with chips.

    Selection of draft brewskies.

Small Gripe:  Maybe it's a legal thing, but why the plastic cups?

    Will return.

If you're a fan of elevated views, you really can't beat the view from the top of POD 39 hotel on a nice day. Situated right there at the top of Murray Hill with a slightly obstructed view of the Empire State Building to the west and the East River to the, well... east - it's a nifty place to throw back a few margaritas with just a single layer in tow.

You can bring up food from Salvation Taco, so throw down some chips and guacamole from 39 stories above sea level. Not a bad proposition, eh?

I work for a nonprofit and was traveling to Manhattan for business and was trying to find a good deal on a room but also stay in a fun place.  I caught a great deal on Expedia for the new Pod 39 location that was $60 cheaper than anything comparable.

NOTE:  They have TWO locations pretty close to each other (the other one is on 51st).  I accidentally told the cab the wrong address and decided to walk to the other location.  I was told I'm not the first to do this. :)

I was traveling alone, but I did spring for the queen bed option with my own bathroom.

Are the rooms small?  Yes.  Are they extremely well thought out?  Absolutely!  I'm a bit of a space efficiency nerd so I couldn't help but admire how well things are put together.

The rooms and facility are EXTREMELY clean and the staff is super friendly.  It's a great hotel if you need a "home base" to explore the city and if you don't plan on being in your room very often.  They have also done a good job of creating community spaces to hang out in (including the awesome rooftop bar) so if you are OK with making new friends it can be a fun experience.  The restaurants are great for a quick bite.

A few things to keep in mind:

    - The hotel lacks some luxury amenities such as valet parking, a doorman/bellhop
    - Bath amenities are the essentials.  Towels are adequate, the sink doesn't have hot water (only cold, but who cares) but everything is clean and neat
    - It can be a bit noisy from people opening and closing their doors.  I'm a light sleeper when I'm traveling so I experience this in a lot of hotels.  It's not that people are partying in the hallways or shouting.

If you want to save money but stay in a safe, fun, clean location this is it.  If you want to be pampered your might want to look elsewhere.

This place really wow'd the crap out of me. I admit, I'm cheap. However, I'm not desperately cheap to the point where I'd sleep in a filthy hostile somewhere in Chelsea with a buncha weirdos from God-knows-where. I paid about 90/night (on a Saturday in March) for a single bed with a shared bathroom. I ended up getting an upgrade (unbeknownst to me) to a queen bed and private bath overlooking Midtown West with Southern exposure. WOW. White clean linen sheets, the room smelled clean, not moldy, and a small, yet cable-ready tv and wifi! The room was tiny, and I wouldn't recommend it for a couple because the bed and toilet are divided by a thin sliding glass door with a foot of clearance between the two. Unless you don't mind seeing your spouse wipe their butts in front of you and smelling it, then this is great for couples.

IT IS AWESOME FOR SINGLES. If You're travelling on your own, and want the NYC experience in the middle of everything, with a matter of walking three blocks to Time Square, then this is the place. THE ROOFTOP IS AMAZING. YOU CAN SEE THE EMPIRE STATE, WORLD TRADE TOWER, AND CHRYSLER BUILDING, AND A BIT OF THE BROOKLYN BRIDGE. It's the cherry on top of the cake.

This is the second time I have visited the Pod, and the service is beyond friendly by East Coast standards.  I will definitely return for future stays. If I could give this place 6 stars, I would.

Like the cheap bast@rd that I am, I felt like I robbed these folks out of a good room. the room was impeccably clean, the bathroom was GORGEOUS, and my stay was relaxing and surprisingly not noisy.

I can't say enough good about Pod. Staff is awesome, decor is awesome, rooftop lounge is awesome, location is uber convenient and  rates are incredible.

Room is small, like really small. Like, we couldn't walk past one another. The bed takes up the whole room. But who cares, honestly. It's clean and cool and I can't believe we found a place this great. Definitely will be back.

Its close to all the action (Not too far from Grand Central / Bryant Park - which can get you to most places of the city easily. Or if you don't mind the walk, you can walk to Herald Square or Times Square if you wanted).

Perfect for the travelling technologist (Its got 2 power outlets, USB, VGA outlets + audio, HDMI and even S-VIdeo / Audio ports). Wifi is also pretty decent as far as hotel wifi goes.

The size is perfect for those who do not plan to spend too much time in their room (just enough to work with).

Although it can get awkward with the glass shower - if you have decided to share a double room with someone who's unrelated or not your partner (luckily I haven't had that YET - but you've been warned)

And last but not least, the cool thing about the hotel checkout is that the receipt is emailed to you (perfect for those who prefer to digitize their receipts - save trees)
