Atmosphere is a bit hard to describe, its feels like a classy bar, not modern, swanky or fancy, more warm, cozy and sophisticated while staying comfortable and casual.
The crowd tends to be mostly midtown suits and its busiest on weekdays after work hours. Sometimes around the bar area is packed, but they do have sit down tables in the back and a full restaurant menu. The restaurant section is small and has a much nicer vibe, whereas the front section has more of a bar feel.
BXL house beer is like an more sophisticated and stronger version of Blue Moon. Yum. Easy drinking, but still relatively strong and flavorful.
Delirium is delicious as always.
I'm not a salad girl, so the vegetarian entree options are limited. The pasta was good, but nothing too special. This spot does better with appetizers.
The brunch does look great though, and I think if I came again, I would try to shoot for brunch.
Cheese plates can get a bit pricey, but they are yummy.
Fries are pretty standard but tasty.
Cheese croquettes are oooey gooey cheesy goodness. The sauce that comes with is good but strong on the horseradish. I liked them with just mayo and ketchup.
Goat cheese - this was yummy but pretty small, not worth $13. -

New York, NYBXL is a terrific place to come for a beer. The selection is very good. They usually have 10 or so Belgian / Belgian style beers on tap and quite a few more available by the bottle.
The food is ok. Not wonderful. Not awful. It's ok. The mussels are probably the most popular item on the menu. They're good. I've had better frittes, though. These don't have the level of crispness of top notch Belgian frittes. But, overall, it makes for a solid meal. Additionally, the burgers, and some of the appetizers are also serviceable.
As I said, a fine place for a beer or two with a snack. -

San Francisco, CAExcellent comfort food with a Belgian twist. Loved the beer selection, which I'd assumed was the big draw. Service was excellent as was the front of house.
Food is perhaps a little heavy, but perfect for a cold night with friends. -

Corte Madera, CABXL has two sister restaurant/bars in NYC. Very wide selection of Belgian beers, they pretty much have it all - bottle/draft with a guest draft list of about 10 beers.
Food is pretty good, nothing off the charts but all good.
Service was excellent. Restaurant/bar very clean and very comfortable to hand in. -

Tucson, AZLike taking a trip back to Brussels, this pub serves up Belgium beers and various traditional food items. Most notably are the mussel frites (mussels, fries and house made mayo). Also true to Belgium, you pick the preparation. Wine and garlic? Tomato? Wine and cream? Wine and bacon? They even add a couple new styles (ehem.... Coconut lemongrass). All for $20 for 2 pounds! Also on tap is a very decent selection of Belgium beers!
The atmosphere is markedly publy but with with a distinctively America pop/grunge rock background. Extra points for Soundgarden's "black hole sun". Best of two worlds? -

Manhattan, NYGreat beer selection!
Muscles are glorious, share an order with a friend! -

Noisy and bustling pub in midtown with friendly service, great drinks, and delicious food. My parents ordered and loved the mussels and frites (delicious frites!). I am not a mussels person so ordered the salmon special, which was fine, but I probably should have ordered a more traditional dish. The prices are great, the food is good, the drinks are cold. -

I only had a beer here because I was too full from dinner. The fresh draft recommendations were all quite good and I recommend it.
The server was really kind and friendly, even though she didn't know the specials by heart...maybe because there were so many... -

Manhattan, NYOrdered 2 pots of mussels with frites along with three rounds of draft beer. Mussels with bacon & onion was a lot more flavorful than the one with white wine although it was a balanced pairing. The service was accommodating and friendly. -

San Antonio, TXTruly great, friendly, attentive service (and I'm not that good looking). Beers were a tad small based on the other 4 Belgian restaurants I've been to in last few years. Goat cheese salad was tasty, but with A bit too much dressing. Meatballs were basically what you'd expect but they did have a nice hit of nutmeg. I probably should have ordered the mussels. -

Only in my dreams.....is not only my favorite Debbie Gibson song, it's also usually the only place where I find the perfect combination of food and beer.
However, BXL East makes my dreams come true! I've been here for dinner and for brunch and both times had great meals.
For dinner, I had multiple beers along with meatballs and frites. Delicious. For brunch, I only had coffee, but that was good and my croque madame was off the charts good. Plus it came with salad and frites. The salad had a delicious dressing and you can't go wrong with frites and mayo.
I'm a fan. -

Manhattan, NYBel-gians! Bel-gians!
The only reason I said it that way is because it feels just a tad happy-hour dude-esque, likely due to its proximity to Grand Central/MTE...etc. I think with just a little classier patrons, we'd have a 5 star place.
Decent selection of Belgian beers... and btw I loved how the waiter coaxed us into ordering Gulden Draak as it was the highest ABV for the money. Smart man!
Interior is chill, classy, and cozy, and because there's not much room we ended up sitting at the couple of tables out front on the sidewalk.
BXL East is definitely a solid choice to begin the night before you're too drunk to enjoy the splendid Belgian nectar. -

Ardsley, NYCool place. The muscles were delicious. The Sunday and Monday special of all the mussels you can eat for $22 is amazingly cheap for a comfortable place in Midtown. Live music on the week ends and and a large beer selection. The dessert menu was large and varied. The only down side is that they don't have a full liquor license.
I can easily become a regular here! -

Queens, NYFood is mediocre. I have had much better moules and frites at other Belgium restaurants/pubs. I did however, really love the wine and beer I tried as well as the ambiance. This is a great date place. Just don't come with high food expectations. -

Chicago, ILAfter attempting to hit up two different bars in Midtown but having each one be packed on a Friday night, we stumbled across this gem and were pleasantly surprised there was some seating at the bar.
My husband loves his Belgian beers and was super excited to have a ton of new options he had never tried before - both on tap and in bottles. This is only a wine and beer bar - so don't come here looking for mixed drinks.
Bartender was really friendly. I thought she would be upset that I was sitting at the bar taking up space with my beer-drinking husband and not having anything to drink (don't drink beer & wasn't clear on which wines were gluten-free) yet she still kept my waters coming.
Good place to catch some sports action on the TVs and indulge in some Belgian beers. Did not try any food here but it seemed that fries and mussels were popular here. -

Brooklyn, NYI first ordered a meal through seamless because of all the rave reviews. People complain about the fries being soggy and cold but what do you expect for delivery?
I was still impressed with the onion soup.... which btw, if you don't realize that they cannot make your cheese and crouton melted and cheesylike is because it will be extremely cold and here come more complaints. As a baker i realized this. I used my blow torch.... Lol...fantastic.
Finally went in for dinner on a Monday night...ALL YOU CAN EAT MUSSELS with fries and an added Stella Artois for about 22 bucks or so... So much food.... Fantastic.
The brunch is also great...not your standard omelette/eggs benedict type of thing.... I felt as if I was in Belgium (somewhat).
The beer selection is fantastic, great Belgian beer selection. -

New York, NYfun, easy going beer lover's oasis, but one oddity...they have a fairly extensive Belgian beer list, but have none of the best Belgium has to offer, just the bottom and middle tiers. Perhaps cost prohibitive, but it would be nice to see some real geueze at at Belgian tap toom. Nevertheless, a fun find! -
Review from Greg S.
It was by pure coincidence that I found myself enjoying a delicious Belgian brew at BXL East. My hotel was a mere four doors down!
The atmosphere is really great and I love the different seating options. They have an excellent variety of Belgian drafts that are sure to satisfy the spectrum of beer drinkers. The bartenders and staff were really friendly and attentive as well.
We frequented BXL twice during our visit, and if I find myself in the neighborhood I'd gladly stop by again! -

Midtown East, Manhattan, NYNice place, friendly service, good food and beer. We were there on a Sunday afternoon. French onion soup had good flavor and grilled cheese sandwich with an egg was very tasty. -
