Bottega del Vino Midtown East

Since there is more than one Italian restaurant called "bottega" I chose this one which has good Yelp reviews (as well as rave reviews from other review sites.) )Photo from the internet, Zagat, as I remember...

It is over near Fifth Avenue in Midtown and is expensive...but supposedly one of the best Italian places around.

Of course, some Yelpers still found things to complain about..what else?

Only came here for dessert. We ordered the Souffle Di Cioccolato Fondente In Salsa Al Grand Marnier.

Dessert is expensive here. It is as expensive as an entree somewhere else.

Price aside, the souffle was indeed very good. It is fluffy with the right temperature for the chocolate to stay melted and not overdone. Along with dessert, we had a pot of coffee which was nice and strong (maybe a bit too much caffeine for 2 people).

The wait staff weren't particularly friendly or mean. They didn't go out of their way to accommodate us but when asked for extra milk, they complied.

I would come back if I'm in the neighborhood.

I will lead with a side note - this place is a bit of a cougar den.

We've been here multiple times for dinner as well as pastries/coffee.  The one drawback is that given its proximity to the Apple Store and FAO, it tends to be overrun with tourists, but on the occasions when it's not tourist-infested, it's not bad.

For the mini-cafe and bakery in the front of the restaurant, the coffee is modestly above average and for some reason I want to patronize it as it is a place where you can get your espresso in a real, non-paper cup.  The selection of pastries and cookies is also pretty good - I can't quite tell if they make it on premises or buy it from a real pastry shop, and I never bothered to ask.

We have been here many times and have sampled most of the pasta selections - the tortellini with black truffle sauce and the black squid ink spaghetti were particularly memorable items off the menu.

The service is pretty efficient and they have always taken good care of us, so there are zero complaints there.  Prices are fairly standard for a decent midtown Italian, say $20+ for pasta that probably deserves no more than $12-$15, to be honest.

Go here if you are in the area and need to go for a sugar/caffeine rush after fighting with the tourists along Fifth Avenue.

This place is my "best find" for my most recent trip to NYC. This little spot is perfect for a date!! The ambiance is warm and romantic.

We ended up sitting here for hours and at no point did we feel rushed. We started with coffees which then lead to desserts and finally to wine! The few hours flew by and if I didn't have a show to get to I would have stayed and had dinner.

Can't wait to come back here...

I eat at this restaurant all the time due to the proximity to my office next door.  As of recent its just been ok.  Pesto pasta was cold today and was def sitting around and my fellow diners were not impressed ESP for what they charge.  Best dish is the bolognese. Excellent !!!   Service is ok.  Not great but not horrendous.

Great food. Great desserts. Crazy extensive wine list. Prosecco served in huge red wine glasses-generous serving. Must have the caprese salad, homemade mozz to die for.  Entrees are excellent.  Don't miss the homemade pasta w bolognese.   Service is average.  Not that attentive. Needed to signal for basics-like drink refills and to clear our plates. Was a Thursday night at 7/30 and no wait for a table. Serafinas had thirty min and Tao was over an hour. I think people forget this little gem in the neighborhood.  Do not pass on the espresso/coffee. They know their stuff!!

Bottega del Vino is located near my office and I have often stopped in for coffee to go. It is bold and full of flavor and I highly recommend it, if you love coffee.

I finally had the opportunity to dine here on a business lunch. I'm so glad I did!

Their wine list is extensive with many different price points. So many really great wines here. They have a nice lunch menu with something for everyone. I had the grilled salmon which was perfect. Many at our table had various salads and pastas. Everyone enjoyed the presentation and quality of their meal.

The atmosphere was very NYC.  There were many business/corporate lunches happening within the restaurant so there was much energy. The service was excellent.  Water and wine glasses were never left empty and the staff was very professional. They realized it was a business lunch and were careful not to interrupt at key moments of our conversation. Yes-they were able to determine that.

Oh yes-I ended the meal with their wonderfully bold coffee!

Stopped by here with a friend before a World music concert at the French Institute. The place is definitely unique, and for the location, I'd say it's one of a kind. It's got a nice, welcoming ambiance to it that's more on the traditional side. Like a place you'd want to cosy up when it's cold outside. We didn't try the food, but it looked good.

Such a cute small place. Great lighting, great ambience and a nice friendly crowd.

I wish the portions of food were a bit bigger. My fish was great, but I was still hungry after I was done. The pasta my friend ordered wasn't divine. I would recommend the goat cheese salad. I think I wanna go back to try the pizzas, I hear good things about them.

I think wine would have completed the meal but since my party wasn't in the mood for alcohol we passed up on that. I would recommend some wine to go with the food for a more holistic experience.

The place was very cozy, but this is probably because it was Valentines day!

I can't say it was bad though, they were nice enough to give us 2 tables for a party of two.  The atmosphere can be a bit cramped and the over sized wine glasses and over sized plates with small portions didn't help the space issue.

With that said, the food was good.  We had the carpaccio salad for starters.  No complaints here, it was good not spectacular like you would expect by central park and 5th ave.  I had the veal scallopine which had great flavor but was a little over seasoned.  My date had the gnocchi with proschuitto which was just perfect.

All in all it was a great experience, but you can probably find better value elsewhere.

On balance, an impressive upscale, rustic Italian restaurant in the heart of Midtown's ultra high-rent district.  Food was ok-to-good but, as one may expect, the selections on the menu were totally overpriced.  Service was fine...  The ambiance, however, is what made this place, in my opinion: Tony, rustic and inviting.  The verdict: Unless you don't mind blowing a lot of money aimlessly on lunch or dinner, come here afterwards for dessert and drinks, and enjoy the great ambiance!

I'm going to keep this one short since I have to get back to work! I really loved the wine list, which it's known for, but I pay for wine myself and not my company so I have to look down the right side...

Anyway I ordered the Burrata which is really good, a must try - quite creamy. And the filet mignon, also very nice. It has a great sauce on it, but for those who don't like sauce on a steak get it on the side. I think it's a barolo reduction. I can't remember if we had any dessert there, I went last week.

Because of the location this place is a bit touristy. People usually choose Cipriani around the corner. But anyway, it's a good place with a solid italian wine list - which I think is the main attraction. So if you're feeling spendy, sell the family jewels (some scrap gold should do) and order a bold Brunello!

    The Good
    -Wine list
    -Easy to get a table
    -Service
    -Steak, cheese

    The Bad
    - Touristy

    The Ugly
    -Nothing really

HOLD EVERYTHING!!! I forgot to mention the red wine risotto which is off the menu but a must do!! Pastas a good too.

Great place to grab a bite in this area, as I feel there are very few around here. It's not over priced, the service is decent and the food is excellent. I noticed a large amount of people here on business lunches, so this would be a good place for that. I dined alone before an interview and had a coffee (their espresso machine was broken! Ahhh) and caprese pannini. Everything was tasty and I left satisfied.

If I'm ever in this area again, I will definitely be back.
