This program will focus on the stunning Swedish film
'Force Majeure' (2014).
Discussion will highlight the film's stark look at intimate couple dynamics, male and female expectations, and the challenge of reaching the 'unreachable other.'
Presenters will discuss a powerfully destabilizing event
in a close family, and its fallout of denial, disavowal, shame and mistrust.
Therapeutic approaches to working with gender-related conflict and narcissistic vulnerability will be discussed., together with ways of enhancing resilience and recovery from trauma in couple relationships.

Albert J. Brok, PhD is Director of the Couple Therapy Training Program
at the Training Institute for Mental Health in New York City. His most recent publication is the chapter on Psychoanalytic Couple Therapy in Case Conceptualization in Couples Counseling, M. Reiter and R Chenail, Eds., New York: Routledge, in press 2016.
Ellen Gussaroff, PhD, LCSW, is Co-Director of the Couple Therapy Training
Program at the Training Institute for Mental Health. She has presented at many national and international conferences, most recently at the IPA in Prague (2013) and Boston (2015) regarding issues in intimate relations.
