West Norwood blue watch made London Fire Brigade history as there were more women than men on duty to protect London. Sadly there are still people who believe firefighting is soley a job for the boys. We have over 300 women firefighters and we'll continue to educate and strive for a workforce that reflects the communities that we serve.

Laura Reilly What about all the lads that work hard in the fire brigade, men, women, whatever ethnic origin I wouldn't care who rescued me in any situation!

David Stuart Hillman I couldn't care less if it reflects the community it serves...if they are strong enough to hoist my unconscious torso over their shoulder and drag me out of a burning building thats all that matters. If they have to drop strength requirements to get them in then that political correctness will endanger lifes. Everone should get equal oppertunity but who is chosen should be based soley on merit.

We’re reiterating our safety warning after Amazon advised customers who have bought hoverboards with unsafe plugs to dispose of them and get a full refund. The retailer also sent a second email to customers that have purchased boards warning that Trading Standards have raised concerns about their safety.
The Retail Ombudsman has today advised those who have bought hoverboards to contact the retailer for written assurance their product is safe and has a compliant plug with a fuse.
Read our advice about hoverboards here http://www.london-fire.gov.uk/…/LatestNewsReleases_AvoidChr… and share this post with anyone who may have a hoverboard under their Christmas tree.

Eddy Meyers It seems that many of these items are shoddily made with sub standard electronic parts.
Be very careful wherever you brought them.
That is putting aside the small matter of them being illegal for use in any public space....See More

Robert Mansfield James. I don't think the Control Officers ask for your name when you make a 999 call, so naming & shaming them, would not be possible.
James John Cunningham I honestly think it should me made the law to name and shame these actual people who waste the emergency service's time - some people will only learn through a sharp shock to the their system via social embarrassment! ;P
Demonstrating that we will rescue absolutely anyone, anytime from anywhere, our crews from Islington Green Watch cut Piers Morgan free from a car live on ITV's Good Morning Britain show today. We joined forces with Piers and his co-presenter Susanna Reid to highlight the dangers of drink driving over Christmas (or any other time). Firefighters are often called to the worst traffic collisions and witness the devastating scenes caused by reckless drink drivers. Our message is simple. Don't do it! Pics @_uknip

Bob Cheveralls Yes, but you can only rescue people with sufficient equipment, Stations and personell. Disgusting that you can run items like this on social media whilst decimating a superb service. Johnston and Dobson, you WILL have blood on your hands. Totally corrupt. A disgruntled LFB firefighter of the 70's
William Jones Love your quote about devastating scenes caused by reckless drunk drivers, You removed the busiest Fire Rescue Unit From F39 Hornchurch which covered some of the busiest routes into East London namely the A13, A12 and M25, leaving the public with a lo...See More
Yesterday marked the 41st anniversary of the Worsley Hotel fire in Clifton Gardens, Paddington, where probationary firefighter Hamish ‘Harry’ Petit and six other people sadly lost their lives.
Over 100 firefighters and 30 fire engines attended the scene of the blaze in Maida Vale and Red Watch crews rescued more than 50 people from the building’s windows, balconies and ledges.
Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those that lost their lives and others affected by the tragedy.

Andrew Browne http://pictures.abebooks.com/isbn/9780091263102-uk-300.jpg I remember reading this when I was younger, my dad gave it to me. A very good and indepth analysis of the fire and the lives of the men who fought it.
