West Norwood blue watch made London Fire Brigade history as there were more women than men on duty to protect London. Sadly there are still people who believe firefighting is soley a job for the boys. We have over 300 women firefighters and we'll continue to educate and strive for a workforce that reflects the communities that we serve.

Demonstrating that we will rescue absolutely anyone, anytime from anywhere, our crews from Islington Green Watch cut Piers Morgan free from a car live on ITV's Good Morning Britain show today. We joined forces with Piers and his co-presenter Susanna Reid to highlight the dangers of drink driving over Christmas (or any other time). Firefighters are often called to the worst traffic collisions and witness the devastating scenes caused by reckless drink drivers. Our message is simple. Don't do it! Pics @_uknip
Yesterday marked the 41st anniversary of the Worsley Hotel fire in Clifton Gardens, Paddington, where probationary firefighter Hamish ‘Harry’ Petit and six other people sadly lost their lives.
Over 100 firefighters and 30 fire engines attended the scene of the blaze in Maida Vale and Red Watch crews rescued more than 50 people from the building’s windows, balconies and ledges.
Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those that lost their lives and others affected by the tragedy.
