TX FF SUFFERS INJURIES IN FALL FROM CATWALK AT FIRE

Tuesday, December 15, 2015   A Longview firefighter is being evaluated after falling from a catwalk while responding to a fire at a manufacturing building Monday morning.Longview Fire Chief Johnny Zackary says crews were called around 10:40 a.m. to the Crosby Manufacturing building, near Dana Way and LEDCO Drive in Longview. Zackary says by the time crews arrived, heavy black smoke was pouring from the building.

Construction crews were doing "hot work" when the fire started, removing vats that were part of the previous company's operations. Zackary says it appears the vats were coated in residue used to put frame rails on vehicles, which was sparked by construction workers welding and cutting to remove the vats.

During the course of fighting the fire, Zackary says one firefighter fell from a catwalk; he was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation, but Zackary says it appears the injury is non-life-threatening. Employees and construction crews inside the building at the time of the... [ more ]

SHOVE IT UNDER THE RUG? I Don't Think That's Gonna Happen.

Tuesday, December 15, 2015   So... last weekend in Prince Georges County, Maryland, there was an extremely disturbing incident involving career and volunteer Firefighters. Reports are that they physically got into a fight or fights upon arriving on the scene. Fighting Fire-Fighters.

This is hardly the first time this has happened. Actually, back in the 1800's volunteer Firefighters were a threat unto themselves. While buildings burned, New York Firefighters brawled and beat up rivals in other fire companies. During the Draft Riots of the Civil War — a grisly, episode depicted in Martin Scorcese’s Gangs of New York**– where one fire company set a fire and then stopped others from putting it out.
How 'bout that. Yep- according to FEMA, this is officially the earliest recorded documentation of BMA. (Brotherhood My A$$) occurring in the North American fire service. And be sure to definitely watch for the fire company "hydrant hider" in this video.

FDNY firefighters file lawsuit: Loud sirens are making us deaf

Sunday, December 13, 2015    New York’s Bravest can take the heat, but some can’t stand the noise.Nearly 1,500 FDNY firefighters and retirees joined with other smoke-eaters to file a mass lawsuit claiming years of exposure to loud sirens are making them deaf. The 4,000 plaintiffs contend Illinois-based siren manufacturer Federal Signal Corp. failed to install “diverters” or “shrouds” that would have redirected the 120-decibel wails — about equal to sitting in the first row of a Led Zeppelin concert, experts say.

“My children would speak to me and I’d say, ‘What? What? What?’ ” he said.

Cops have not signed onto the lawsuits, although medics have. And municipalities that purc... [ more ]
