12:05 p.m. -- Thanks to Jennifer Fiore via email: "The United States Merchant Marine Acadamy, one of our 5 service Academies,  is running as a group today too. Remember that USMMA boats saved many on 911. How about a shout out to Kings Pointers."
11:01 a.m. -- World Series hero/jazz guitarist Bernie Williams just finished a set with his band. Closing ceremonies just commence soon in downtown Manhattan.
10:10 a.m. -- Well, much to report, including that 26-year-old Castleton Corners resident James Weisner was the overall winner of the 5K Run, finishing with an uofficial time of of 18 minutes, eight seconds.
I was able to get through the front lines of volunteers and security to interview Weisner, who was standing next to NYC Police Commissioner William Bratton.
Weisner is a former St. Peter's HS and LIU runner. I'll have my story on him posted this afternoon on SILive.

9:45 a.m. -- Name-dropping time: Rubbed elbows with ex-Yankees great Bernie Williams briefly as he crossed the finish line with West Point military contingent. Yes, he was carrying his guitar case over his shoulder.
9:25 a.m. -- Ran into old friend Sister Caridad Portu, Sisters of St. Dorothy. The 76-year-old nun is again here honoring the memory of firefighter Brian Cannizzaro, an ASD graduate who lost his life on 9-11.
9:15 a.m. -- The excitement is building for the 9:30 a.m. start! I'm looking forward to the West Point contingent coming through the tunnel en mase. Always a highlight for me.
8:32 a.m. -- What a beautiful morning! It was a sleepy ferry ride over to Manhattan and a cup of coffee sure helped.
Enjoyed chatting with some NYFD guys on the trip off and I have my laptop and I-phone ready at the Media check-in point at Vescy and West.
It's going to be another great Tunnel to Towers Run/Walk!

8:15 a.m. -- I'm at the media checkpoint in Manhattan and photographer Derek Alvez is heading over to the tunnel as another 30,000-plus runners and walkers are expected at the annual event honoring the deceased firefighting hero and all who perished during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center.
The run is set to start at 9:30 a.m.
Send any thoughts or race-day observations to waggoner@siadvance.com and we'll try to include in the blog.
Have a great morning and we hope to see you at the race!
