Wednesday, September 16, 2015   A fire broke out around 1:45 p.m. at the Legacy Apartments on Monday. Crews arrived to find smoke and flames coming from one apartment and spreading to another. No one was inside at the time, but when the tenants arrived they told fire crews there were two cats still inside.

About an hour later, crews pulled the first cat, Autumn, from the apartment. Fifteen minutes later, they rescued the second, Tiger.

"They're like your kids you know,” Kristina McMillan said.

McMillan was expecting the worst when she drove up to her apartment and saw it engulfed in flames.

"Driving here I was told that there was nothing in the apartment, that everything was dead, so I had a breakdown in the car.”

Inside McMillan’s apartment were Autumn and Tiger.

Fire crews fought heavy smoke and flames when they found Autumn hiding under the furniture.

While McMillan waited nervously, firefighters brought Tiger downstairs.

OHIO FF FALLS THRU FLOOR AT HOUSE FIRE

WLWT Video
Tuesday, September 15, 2015   A Liberty Township firefighter is counting his blessing after falling through the second floor of a home while fighting a fire this weekend.

"I think you just get this mindset where you react based off your training and you do what you have to do and you can think about it later," Jon Meyer said. For 15 years Meyer has battled all types of fires, but none that left him with a serious knee injury.

"Nobody wants to get hurt. Nobody wants to at least in our field. Nobody doesn't want to go to work and do their job," said Meyer. "I was frustrated but that's kind of surpassed and I know I have to keep my chin up to work through this and go through the steps and get better and get back on the job."
