3 NEW ORLEANS FFs INJURED AT 2 ALARM FIRE 

Monday, September 7, 2015   Five homes were damaged as intense heat two-alarm fire engulfed nearby homes on Friday.New Orleans crews found a home under renovation at Kentucky and North Rampart Streets fully involved and spreading to an adjacent home when they arrived around 4:20 p.m. The fire quickly spread to an adjacent home and a second alarm was called.

The fire was so intense that it damaged two homes across the street and another structure, New Orleans fire officials said The fire was under control within an hour.

One firefighter suffered burns to his elbow and was struck by debris when the original home collapsed. Two other firefighters suffered injuries to their hand and back and all three were taken to Tulane Medical Center.

A total of 29 firefighters responded.
     

 

FIREFIGHTER SERIOUSLY IN PENNSYLVANIA FIRE STATION FALL 

Monday, September 7, 2015    The 55-year-old was about 12 feet off the ground performing general maintenance for a Labor Day parade on the apparatus with a "a walkway and hand rails," according to a statement from the fire company. It was initially reported that he fell from 20 to 30 feet.He was transported to the trauma unit of St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem where he is listed in serious condition.

"The accident is under internal investigation, however at this time there were no signs of any mechanical failures," according to the statement.

"We ask that you keep this firefighter and our station in your thoughts and prayers, and wish a speedy recovery," Fire Chief Richard Hildebrand said.

      

 

DE FF BURNED AT ROWHOUSE FIRE 

Monday, September 7, 2015   Squad-1 arrived on scene with heavy fire showing from a first floor of a two story middle of the row dwelling, had reports of people trapped. Command reported two lines in service, had extension to the cock-loft. All searches were negative.
One firefighter suffered burns and was transported to the hospital.

Monday, September 7, 2015   B/C-7 reported fire in fire in the basement with extension to the first floor of a two story middle of the row dwelling.
A firefighter was injured after he fell from the second floor to the first floor after the stairs collapses. Medics transported the firefighter to a local trauma center. Injuries are reported to be non-life threatening.  
     

 

4 JERSEY CITY FFs INJURED AT FIRE 

Sunday, September 6, 2015   Four Jersey City firefighters sustained non-threatening injuries early this morning as they battled a two-alarm fire at 22 Clinton Ave. shortly after midnight, a city spokeswoman says.The fire at the three-story residential building near Crescent Avenue also displaced five adults and one child, city spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill says.

The blaze erupted just after midnight and was brought under control shortly after 1 a.m..

There was heavy fire on the top two floors of the building. The fire was so severe the interior stairway started to give way, causing one of the firefighters to fall one story from the stairs onto another firefighter, Morrill says.

A "may day" was called during the fire as three firefighters with injuries were reported trapped in the building. However, all were safely evacuated and a total of four firefighters were transported to the Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health, Morrill says.

PA FF SERIOUSLY INJURED IN FALL FROM APPARATUS 

Sunday, September 6, 2015    A volunteer firefighter was seriously injured after falling from an apparatus at the Lehigh Township Volunteer Fire Company #1 station Sunday morning.The 55-year-old was about 12 feet off the ground performing general maintenance for a Labor Day parade on the apparatus with a "a walkway and hand rails," according to a statement from the fire company. FF INJURED AT DUMP TRUCK FIRE IN TN 

Sunday, September 6, 2015   Assistant fire Chief Jason Baird said the dump truck was hauling old tires and wheels north on Highway 109 just after 3 p.m. when another driver alerted the truck driver that his load was on fire at the intersection of Business Park Drive.The truck driver stopped and discovered the contents were on fire.

Baird said within minutes, the truck's cab was too hot to stay inside it. He said firefighters arrived and worked to put out the blaze but realized their efforts to get water over the sides weren't working. So the firefighters put a ladder up to get a better position on the fire.

After a few minutes, Baird said one of the firefighters lost balance and fell face first to the asphalt in full gear and while wearing an air pack. He said two other firefighters pulled the injured firefighter away from the burning truck to assess the injuries.

Sunday, September 6, 2015    During some of the worst of the wildfires in North Central Washington, a monitor near Omak, Okanogan County, reported air quality as “hazardous”, with particle levels more than 20 times those recorded on the worst days last year.“It’s just been this thick layer of fog,” said Lauri Jones, a community-health director in Okanogan County, of the smoke late last month. “My voice is a little raspy. Oh, it’s horrible air quality.”When air quality reaches “hazardous” levels, “Everyone should stay indoors, do only light activities and keep the windows closed if it is not too hot,” the state Department of Ecology advises. BOOBY TRAPPED BUILDING COULD HAVE KILLED FIREFIGHTERS AND RESIDENTS-NEW YORK 

Sunday, September 6, 2015   A tragedy that could have cost the lives of a number of Endicott, N.Y. Firefighters was narrowly averted early Friday morning.
   
Just after two a.m. crews responded to a fire at 117 Jefferson Avenue. Endicott Fire Chief Joseph Griswold said when firefighters entered they found a trip wire and discovered the building was booby trapped from the basement to the attic.

The Endicott Bomb Squad was called out and neighboring residents were evacuated from their homes. A small fire in the stairway of the empty building was put out in 10-15 minutes. But had the trap gone off as it could have, firefighters and neighbors could have been killed. Griswold describes what his firefighters encountered.

FF INJURED AT PITTSBURGH FIRE 

Saturday, September 5, 2015   One firefighter was injured while battling a fire in the Hill District Saturday morning.
According to emergency dispatchers, the fire broke out in the 3400-block of Webster Avenue around 11 a.m.
The extent of the firefighter’s injuries and the cause of the fire are unknown.  
     

 

6 FFs INJURED AT DELHI, INDIA CHEMICAL TRUCK FIRE 

Saturday, September 5, 2015    Six firemen sustained minor burn injuries while battling a fire that broke out in a truck carrying chemicals here, an official said on Saturday.
The incident was reported around 10.35 p.m. on Friday from Alipur area of west Delhi when the truck was entering the national capital from Haryana.
"The truck carrying chemicals caught fire when it was entering Delhi from Haryana. FF INJURED AT NJ FIRE 

Saturday, September 5, 2015   One firefighter was injured and several families were left homeless Thursday after fire tore through two structures in the 500 block of North Ave."The stubborn fire burned two structures and left several families homeless," Dunellen Defender Fire Company 1 stated on Facebook.

The American Red Cross and the Dunellen Office of Emergency Management assisted the displaced on Friday, officials said.

One firefighter sustained minor injuries and was treated at a nearby hospital. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

In addition to Dunellen, fire department crews from Middlesex, Green Brook, New Market, Arbor, North Stelton, Bound Brook, South Plainfield assisted.

ON DUTY, RESTING WILDLAND FIREFIGHTER BITTEN BY A BLACK BEAR

Friday, September 4, 2015   Idaho officials have euthanized a black bear that bit a sleeping wildland firefighter.
According to the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, the bear bit the snoozing firefighter Tuesday evening while he was resting in a small tent in central Idaho. The region is currently experiencing several catastrophic wildfires, with hundreds of firefighters battling to fight the fires.
The firefighter, whose name has not been released, was taken to a hospital for minor wounds and has since been released. It was not immediately clear where the firefighter had been bitten.
Fish and Game officials say they trapped and euthanized a bear on Wednesday. However, the department is attempting a DNA test to confirm they put down the same bear involved in the biting. 
     

 

RESPONDING CRASH IN NEW HAMPSHIRE AS CIVILIAN RUNS STOP SIGN 

Friday, September 4, 2015   Companies turned out for run yesterday in Keene, New Hampshire when this CLOSE CALL happened. The Shift Commander vehicle (19Car3) was struck by a civilian vehicle -that ran s stop sign. Thankfully, no injuries (SEAT BELTS WORN) but another "you never know" reminder!
