Buildings Evacuated After Lower East Side Water Main Break, FDNY Says
MANHATTAN — Several buildings were evacuated after a water main break in the Lower East Side Thursday afternoon, according to the FDNY.
The break happened at Cherry Street and Rutgers Slip at about 4:42 p.m., and the street was evacuated a little after 5 p.m., the fire department said.

Some water was flowing into a manhole and Con Edison crews were on the way to the scene.
There was no immediate information about power outages or which specific buildings were evacuated.
