It has always been among the department's most dangerous jobs. Two of his men were killed in Astoria last Father's Day, and another died with him at 2 World Trade Center on Sept. 11.
Yet the 47-year-o...

  • John Abbruzzese I met Brian when he was a firefighter in R4, and I was in L154. In those days there was no SOC. R4 was in the 49Bn along with E307/L154. I found him to be friendly and down to earth. Soon after, I moved to Bethpage where Brian lived. Our sons were the ...See More
  • Jay Steven Wheeler When I visited Rescue 4 when they were temporarily quartered in Astoria next to E 316 the brothers had nothing but wonderful things to say about Captain Hickey! Rest In Peace Captain Hickey it would have been nice to have met you, the way your brothers spoke of you it kind of feels like I did. God Bless and protect both of your family's!

  • FDNY Rescue Company 4 This would be a great time for you guys to just disagree without being disagreeable. A lot goes in to moving the POTUS around. Unless you have seen it first hand its hard to imagine. The Marines and Secret Service that are there with him are the best that our country hast to offer. There is no place we would rather be. Political affiliations aside.
  • John D. Metallo Sorry to hear that Res4cue!!! You have my condolences!!! Stay safe FDNY!
This story is about the son of an active member of Rescue 4. The members of Rescue 4 couldnt be more proud of what Robert did that day.

“You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism.” Erma Bombeck
