Thanks to the popularity of Instagram, there's no shortage of photographers out there capturing the beauty of New York City—its streetscapes, architecture, quotidian scenes, and everything in between. And these ten Instagrammers are some of our favorites for seeing the city through new eyes, whether it's a photo taken from thetop of the Manhattan Bridge (yikes!), or a snap ofWilliamsburg that could have just as easily been inHavana, Cuba.
Photographer Sam Horine's images are postcard-worthy, and a reminder that sometimes, even shots you've seen a thousand times before—like this Dumbo streetscape—are worth taking for a reason. The Written City proves that sometimes, you can find something deep and meaningful (or just funny) in the most unexpected places.Ryan Parrilla, a 16-year-old wunderkind photographer better known as novess, captures the beauty in everything from NYC's iconic skyline to its shabbier abandoned corners. [Full story]Another teen photographer, Humza Deas is also a bit of a daredevil—many of his photos, such as the one above, are shot from the tops of NYC's bridges, buildings, and other thrilling (and, sure, illegal-to-access) spaces.Nam Pho's gorgeous shots of New York City (which he posts as mell0wfell0w) streetscapes are so transportive, you may not even realize that they were actually taken in the city.Onetime street artist MoustacheManNYC—a.k.a. artist-activist Patrick Waldo—documents NYC landscapes and oddities on his Insta account, along with images from Black Lives Matter protests and other political missives.
Every year, Open House New York gives New Yorkers a chance to go behind the scenes at many stunning off-limits sites around the city; its Instagram account is like living that reality on the regular, with shots of gems like the TWA Flight Center or the Jefferson Market Library (pictured).Curbed architecture critic Alexandra Lange has a keen eye for details no matter what city she's in, but her tightly-composed shots of NYC buildings, parks (Prospect Park is pictured above), and more are particularly beautiful.NYOnAir leads photography-focused helicopter tours of the five boroughs, offering both participants and Instagram followers a chance to get a rarified view of New York City. The Instagrammer known as sirroyston captures incredible nighttime scenes of New York City, but his photographs of the NYC subway make an oft-maligned part of city living look downright beautiful.
