  • Susan Johnson Why do the powers in DC want to replace Alexander Hamilton on the $10 bill when he was a founding father of our Country, and also the founder of our Coast Guard. Happy 225th Birthday!

  • Bill Wells The passage of the act had far greater relevance than authorizing the construction of ten cutters. It was a backwater addition to the bill. This is why it is in Sections 62 - 66 (page 175) instead of paragraph 5 of Hamilton's 1789 bill.

  • Linda Scholl I read this in my daily Compass email. Great story, great person and great Coast Guard!!!
On this day in 1943 the Navy assigned air-sea rescue responsibility to the Coast Guard effectively doubling the size of its aviation forces. The first Navy air-sea rescue squadron was formed at San Diego, California, under the command of Coast Guard Lt. Cmdr. Chester Bender to provide support for extensive West Coast pilot training. It was an all Coast Guard squadron equipped with nine PBY-5A "Catalina" aircraft, like the one pictured flying over San Diego Bay. ‪#‎TBT‬ ‪#‎USCG‬ ‪#‎CoastGuard‬ ‪#‎USN‬ ‪#‎NAVY‬

"The danger? But danger is one of the attractions of flight," said, Lt. Jean Louis Conneau "André Beaumont" Pioneer French aviator.
  • Cathy Entman Great quote! You'd have to know the story of my Dad's (Tal Sivils, CGA #344) unexpected journey into aviation. It began when he was a non-rate seaman 3rd and a friend put his name on a flight school volunteer list as a joke in 1942. And as they say, the rest is history.
