Lt. James S. Hayes, 53, of Engine 158 is in stable condition at Richmond University Medical Center. He was shot in the ankle and hip while responding to a fire at a Staten Island home. Garland Tyree, who is suspected of starting the fire and shooting at Hayes, barricaded himself inside of an apartment and died after a standoff with police that dragged on for six hours.
Fire Commissioner Dan Nigro said at a press conference that Hayes entered the apartment fearing the occupant had become unconscious. The NYFD said on Twitter that Hayes has been cited twice for bravery before. Hayes is the first New York firefighter to be shot while responding to an apparent fire since 1994. He was involved with rescue efforts after the September 11 attacks.

It must be a family ILLNESS, having this overwhelming desire to run inside of burning buildings LOL !!!!!!!

One of the members was shot by a perp who had set his house on fire to thwart a federal search warrant. The members injuries are reported as not likely meaning besides being shot twice to the legs he will be ok. Let's all pray this is true and wish him a quick recovery.

We invite our friends to share one of the last statements John McNamara ever put pen to paper and wrote before he passed away.
For John, "whatever it takes" was his feeling towards getting health care for those sick and injured from The WTC.
For our friends it may be a little lift me up if you are currently going thru some hard times.
We appreciate all of our fans and we hope that you too do "whatever it takes" to stand strong again in the face of hardship.
