From baking a few cakes for his watch to vying for the coveted position of Star Baker. Firefighter Mat Riley will be hoping he avoids Soggy Bottoms as he shows off his baking talents to the nation on this year’s Great British Bake Off.
The hit BBC One show starts at 8pm tonight and Mat will be firing up his oven and hoping he creates an Even Bake while fighting off competition from 11 other contestants.
To keep cake orders to a minimum and the paparazzi at bay we won’t be revealing what station Mat’s based at, but tune in at 8pm to follow his journey. More here: http://www.london-fire.gov.uk/…/LatestNewsReleases_GreatBri…

This is the scene that Euston and Islington’s firefighters faced earlier when a tourist bus collided with a tree on Woburn Place in Bloomsbury.
Two fire engines and a fire rescue unit attended after an overhanging branch ripped the roof off the bus.
Four people were taken to hospital after the collision and 40 other uninjured passengers were looked after by police and LAS staff in a nearby building.

  • Jonathan Ray Good job as always boys and girls!

I was just wondering who would be considered at fault here from this type of scenario. Trees don't usually have height warning signs on them and the bus looks to be sat in the bus lane as normal, a lane considered safe for buses to use. Overhanging trees would be maintained by the council.

  • Graeme Jackson You say that "Tower Hamlets has more blazes than any other borough" given that FACT
Why did you close Bow Fire Station, surely given that FACT that must put residents of Bow at risk!!
Taking also into consideration that Kingsland has been closed as well !
  • Anthony Barker Tower hamlets has more blazes than any other... yet they closed bow fire station?
We’ve got lots of events happening across the Brigade today. Get on your bike to Islington fire station where firefighters along with colleagues from the Met Police’s Road Safety Cycling team will be offering road safety advice to cyclists. There’ll also be the chance to sit in a HGV lorry to experience the driver’s view and raise awareness of the blind spots they face. The event is from 12pm to 3pm.
Croydon crews will be in the town centre raising road safety awareness and d...

The sun has been at it again this week!
The bedroom of a house in Wimbledon was left badly damaged after a dressing table make-up mirror focussed sunlight on to curtains starting a blaze.
Fortunately no-one was injured as the occupier was alerted to the fire by their smoke alarm.
