‪#‎TBT‬ HFD responded to a fire at the Hamm's Brewing Co. on Polk Street in the late 60s. Firefighters had to stay on scene for a week to extinguish hot-spots due to the cork-lined walls.

  • Donna Richison Fire fighters are heroes, the paramedics,too. The families of these heroes have many challenges to face and we need to remember their sacrifises.
  • Thomas Naquin Yes I was at the Mykawa road fire. I have to go to fire school every 5 years and they always show the news footage of the Mykawa fire to show us a BLEVE. When I tell the guys in school I was there, they of coarse say yea right.
As the heat increases so does the need for EMS. HFD has already responded to more than 200 temperature related EMS calls this month, about 4x the average during cooler months.
Help prevent a heat related emergency by keeping some simple safety tips in mind:
Before conducting outdoors activities drink plenty of water and electrolyte-replacement beverages. Avoid beverages or food sources with caffeine, alcohol or large amounts of sugar.
