EDMONTON, Alberta — He admits that writing and reading are not synonymous with firefighters, but for Edward Yatscoff, a retired Edmonton firefighter, the pen has become a trusted friend in retirement.
What started out as writing stories for his children has become more than a hobby. Yatscoff, who lives in Beaumont, writes and edits almost every day. He writes firefighter fiction now, and has lots of experience to draw on. He spent 32 years with the Edmonton Fire Department.
He believes he is the first firefighter in Canada to write fictional works about firefighting. He was 24 years old when he was accepted to the Edmonton Fire Academy and retired in 2010, having served eight years as station captain at #26.
