  • Moe Morris My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by this, but I just can't believe this is not staged. They just find him lying on burned out rubble, and just lift him on a stretcher and walk him out. Some how I think this is Chinese produced propaganda. Sorry if this offends some just my thoughts.

    • Brotherhood of Fire You're smart to think that way, but no way to determine what actually happened before the camera started rolling. For now I'll take this at face value and call it great news!

  • Tom White Are you sure as a full time firefighter you can't volunteer? FDNY guys were well known for doing this for as long as I can remember. As a full time union member it is looked down upon to work for a non union, paying job. As a volunteer I don't see why there's be a problem.
  • Will Elwell Tom White, my step father was a career Lt in Cohoes Ny and shortly after he joined, in the late 80's, all new on coming members of the Union were told they'd be booted if they volunteered, he got around by having been on already, but they are still that way today. These rules usually depend on the local union leadership

I've heard that it is getting harder and harder to recruit volunteer.
Is this true?
What has been your Department / Brigade's experience(s) with recruitment over the last generation?

  • David Colaw Funding and grant cuts means PPE and equipment cuts too. Even if we could get the volunteers, we can't get the PPE and the equipment like radios and pagers. Tanker or vehicle's constantly needing repair. It also seems that some people want to sign up, but they don't want to serve. Some just want to wear the hat and the t-shirt.
  • Daniel Mahlmeister The younger generation isnt as into it anymore not because its not cool or fun etc but because you have to give up a lot to do it with little reward and not only the potential for getting sued if something goes wrong but also its dangerous and could be...See More
