Medtronic GenCut Lung Biopsy Device Takes Multiple Samples in Single Run
JULY 15TH, 2015 EDITORS
Medtronic is now making available the new GenCut core biopsy system that works with the firm’s superDimension lung navigation system. The device lets physicians take multiple core biopsy samples within hard to reach areas of the lungs. Medtronic promises that GenCut, thanks to a new blade design, can harvest larger intact samples than was previously possible. This should help pathologists more quickly and easily arrive at diagnoses and because only one pass is necessary, patients will benefit from fewer separate biopsies.
The device also helps to gather healthy tissue that can be used for genetic and molecular testing, comparing it to the tissue gathered from suspect lesions, all in one run.
