How the world celebrated Social Media Day
For the sixth annual time, Social Media Day was celebrated by thousands of people around the world on June 30.
Mashable started Social Media Day in 2010 as a way to reflect and honor the growth of social media and the digital revolution. Now in 2015, this holiday encompasses hundreds of in-person events around the world, along with thousands of tweets, Instagram photos and Facebook posts commemorating #SMDay.

Social Media Day events, both big and small, took place across the United States and around the world.
Here are four events you may want to attend next year:
Jamaica
Jamaica celebrated Social Media Day with a bang. Highlights of the 2015 event included a keynote speech from the Minister of Youth and Culture who shared digital branding tips for entrepreneurs and marketing executives. The second night was dubbed Bloggers Night Out, and showcased how bloggers can turn their creative ideas into a business. The final night saw a panel of top local bloggers who shared insights on how you can make a living from your expertise.
The celebration ended with a "tweetup" — or face-to-face meeting of Twitter users — overlooking the beautiful city of Kingston.
Colombo
Sri Lanka's capital city celebrated Social Media Day for the fourth year in a row on June 28, with more than 550 people in attendance. The celebration was split into two major events. In the morning, more than 120 marketing professionals and entrepreneurs met to discuss social media's impact on the workplace. In the evening, more than 450 enthusiasts attended an awards ceremony for excellent uses of social media.
Barcelona
The Spanish city's second annual Social Media Day was full of learning and networking at the W Hotel Barcelona. The event, which saw its #SMDayBCN hashtag become a trending topic, hosted panels from a number of social media influencers, including a panel by Barbie Style about its success on Instagram.
The panels were attended by more than 200 people, and was capped off by a Tinder Plus Match after party.
South Florida
Things got social in South Florida, where Social Media Day 2015 attracted 423 guests and 25 speakers who discussed the impact digital media has made through workshops, conferences and a happy hour.
It didn't take long for #SMDSFL to become the number one hashtag in Miami.
