In Auschwitz trial the District Court Lüneburg has sentenced the former SS members Oskar Gröning to four years imprisonment. He had to murder in 300,000 cases guilty, the court ruled on Wednesday. Whether the health ailing 94 years old Groening is adhesive, the prosecutor has to check if the judgment is final. The court went with his opinion on the demanded by the prosecution beyond punitive.
Groening had admitted his involvement and moral complicity in the Holocaust in the process. He had been counted money of displaced persons and to have forwarded to the SS to Berlin. This later earned him the nickname of "accountant of Auschwitz" a. He testified to have done two vertretungsweise service on the ramp or three times to watch over luggage there. There deported Jews were selected for assassination.

Prosecutors had demanded a half years imprisonment, of which 22 months should be regarded as serving as a condemnation would have been possible decades ago.Initial investigations, there had been in 1977.
Advocates of more than 70 co-plaintiffs held that demanded by the prosecution for penalties too low. The defenders had on Tuesday pleaded not guilty, because Groening had the Holocaust not promoted in the criminal sense. If convicted should be avoided in their view of a penalty.
Shocking reports of Holocaust survivors
In the nearly three-month process, which also met with great interest abroad, many Holocaust survivors had described her abduction and mass murder in the death camp in harrowing detail. Among other things, the inhuman medical experiments of Josef Mengele and the camp doctor gassing and burning of Jews in time with the incoming trains were discussed.
The horrors of the next generation, who grew up in the shadow of their murdered in the concentration camps were families, portrayed vividly. In the past maybe Auschwitz Trial Groening had to give an answer to the question tried what the individual to participate in the crime had been able to bring. Due to the poor health of the 94-year-olds, the process was repeatedly on the brink, several days of negotiations failed.
Groening came only now in court because the judiciary until 2011 insisted that concentration camp overseers direct involvement in the killings must be proven.Earlier investigations against Groening had therefore set in 1985. Only after the Central Office for the Investigation of National Socialist Crimes changed its assessment, the investigation and some concentration camp guard came again.
The case Oskar Gröning was not only the view of the atrocities committed by an individual. His trial was also a discussion of justice to itself and the protracted processing of the Nazi injustice.
